And her name is Norwegain Jewel!

From Seatrade Insider:

NCL’s next newbuild is a Jewel
30/06/2004
Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Freestyle ship, under construction in Germany for delivery in August 2005, will be called Norwegian Jewel. The vessel will cruise from Miami starting late next summer and reposition to Seattle for the 2006 Alaska season.
‘As the next generation of Norwegian Star and Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Jewel represents the new NCL and the next stage in NCL's rejuvenation,’ said NCL president and ceo Colin Veitch. ‘NCL will be sailing a fleet of seven new ships in 2005, out of a total fleet of 11 ships, with 70% of NCL's passengers sailing on new state-of-the-art megaships.’

The 92,000gt Norwegian Jewel will offer 10 restaurants, two large garden villas and a new style of accommodation, 10 courtyard villas with a private courtyard and sundeck on Deck 14. The ship will accommodate 2,400 passengers in lower berths.

Inaugural events, a 14-night Mediterranean cruise primarily to be marketed in Europe and a Atlantic crossing from England will kick off the ship’s entry into service. NCL said it will announce details of Norwegian Jewel’s Caribbean and Alaska itineraries shortly.

and hers more details about her:

New concepts on Norwegian Jewel
30/06/2004
While Norwegian Jewel is modeled after Norwegian Star and Dawn, the number of cabins on the newest ship will increase from 1,112 to 1,188, including the addition of 10 penthouse suites sharing a private courtyard with swimming pool, Jacuzzi and a small gym. These suites also share a private sundeck with two-person sun beds and hammocks.
Positioned high atop the vessel, the courtyard villas will be served by butlers and share a concierge lounge with the two large garden villas. NCL said Norwegian Jewel also offers ample cabins that interconnect to create a two-, three-, four- or five-bedroom area suitable for families.

Of 10 restaurants, new venues include Tango’s, a contemporary spot with bright colors to go with the spicy Latin/tapas fare; Chin Chin, an Asian venue inspired by the traditional women’s costumes and dances of the Far East; and Mama’s Italian Kitchen with a long wooden table running though the room to create the ambience of a farmhouse kitchen.

The main restaurants are Tsar’s Palace and Azura, the latter inspired by modern boutique hotel designs. Familiar NCL spots include Cagney’s Steak House, Blue Lagoon and Le Bistro.

Norwegian Jewel will introduce a ‘Bar Central,’ three specialty bars that are connected but sport distinct personalities. Shakers Martini and Cocktail Bar will be a 1960s-inspired lounge; Magnum's Champagne and Wine Bar will recall Paris of the 1920s and the liner Normandie; and Maltings Beer and Whiskey Pub will be a contemporary bar with artwork themed around whiskey and beer production.

what are your thoughts on this?

Hmmm... poor name choice. It seems too much like Jewel of the Seas- strangely the last cruise ship launched from Meyer Werft. I was hoping for something more original like Norwegian Isle, or Norwegian Rain.

We'll have to see what they name her sister- I just hope it's not Norwegian Serenade, Legend, or any other Carnival/of the Seas knockoff.

Not only are the ships of various cruise lines becoming increasingly similar, so are the names!

What next;

'Norwegial Legend'
'Carnival Carnival'
'Cunard Fantasy...of the Seas'?

Most new cruise ship names seem to be all about advertising the line. Carnival this, Norwegion that. Princess seems a bit different as their original names such as Island Princess, Pacific Princess seemed more exotic and distinctive. Did Cunard start this trend with Adventurer and Ambassador in the early 1970s?

Maybe Meyer Werft offered a discount for not having to make new stencils for painting the ship's name.

Hmm I wonder how they are going to fit 12 suites on top? Anyhow, I don't like the name at all....they should do NORWEGIAN DYNASTY, NORWEGIAN EMPRESS, or even NORWEGIAN PRINCESS jk!

Norwegian Jewel, while looking virtually identical to Star and Dawn, will have some changes. In this drawing you can see the redesigned villas.

And this image shows an additional deck above the bridge.

Here's a question- can anyone guess what the hull art will look like on Nor. Jewel? I certainly hope it isn't like Nor. Star's with gem stones in place of the stars.

I am afraid thats what we might see . Anyhow thanks for the pictures Fairsky!

Now 2 more questions for you all, do you think she will look too "top heavy" with the additional deck above the bridge? Will she be longer to accomodate the extra "courtyard villas"?

I just returned from NCL's Dawn on Sunday and NCL exceeded my expectations with the freestyle cruising. Wonderful food and service!

Since I am a bit of a fan now I was wondering if there is any additional info on the Jewel. Does anyone have any deck plans? Where do these pics come from?

Did you knock over your coffee mug? Or laugh so hard the coffee came out your nose? Or both? Inquiring minds want to know.
