For some reason I don't think aesthetics is important to you. I have friends who are engineers and they have'nt a clue about scale, proportion (or what just looks good for that matter)-nothing wrong that as not everyone 'gets' it. That is why there are interior designers, architects and industrial designers who's job it is to make things pleasing to the eye and engineers, contractors, builders etc. who design the 'inards' and could'nt care less about what's on the outside. Sorry, but that's outright offensive. You do not know me at all and such comments are just not appropriate for a public forum. Just because I do not think that a longer forecastle and larger funnel is under any circumstances more beautiful does not mean that I do not care about aesthetics - more the contrary. I indeed think the Vista class would not look better with a longer forecastle because it actually would ruin their proportions. I also think that the more inclined aft of the superstructure of the original design is not very consistent with the rest of the ship. (as much as I loved a nice stern 'terrace' - this would not suite the Vista class) You might have a different opinion on this matter and that is of course perfectly fine but this not an appropriate reason to imply that I care less about aesthetics. Based on your comments I am frankly not so sure whether you actually ever really looked into this in more detail. Maybe you should take a sheet of paper and make some sketches for yourself and see how much play there actually is for altering the proportions of the Vista class. quote: Originally posted by lasuvidaboy:

I don't know your friends but good engineering is a lot about right proportions. You comment above is even more offensive giving that I have always been an advocate for more art related lectures for engineers. (the trend is indeed sadly against that) In fact many people (people who actually know me) tease me because I put what they think is too much emphasis on that. quote: Originally posted by lasuvidaboy: That is why there are interior designers, architects and industrial designers who's job it is to make things pleasing to the eye and engineers, contractors, builders etc. who design the 'inards' and could'nt care less about what's on the outside.
You do not seem to know much about engineering or design. In many cases people try to do what you describe above but this is not the right approach - one usually can not 'dress up' a design that is inherently bad. [ 08-23-2009: Message edited by: Ernst ]
