Just took my first cruise (l/10-17)along the Mexican Rivera, therefore can't compare the ride but would be happy to tell you my experience.
The first 6 days of the cruise were so smooth we might have forgotten we were on board ship if not for the lovely ocean views everywhere.
The last full day at sea was another story. The waves rose from 4 ft. to 9 ft. and we could definitely feel the difference. Even with the extra movement though, walking in a normal fashion was possible for the most part. Actually, we found the motion fun and joked that anyone slightly "under the influence" could probably walk with a steadier gate than everyone else.
I was told by those that had cruised before that the ship's stabilizers were very effective during the rough seas.
Cruise lines give free pills for sea-sickness if you require them.
