I've read a lot of reviews recently with regards to toilets not flushing and the air conditioning not working properly on the Zenith. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this and if Celebrity plans on fixing the problems! I'm booked on a Sept. cruise to Bermuda on the Zenith and don't want to pay all that money for no airconditioning and toilets not flushing. Any info. on this would be appreciated! Thanks.

I use to work on the Zenith, in fact I brought the ship across the Atlantic from the ship yard in Germany. The Toilets on Zenith like many modern cruise ships use vacuum pressure. At Celebrity Cruises, management on the ships as well as on land are very detail oriented and I have no doubt that the problem will be fixed. Where have you heard these complaints about the Zenith toilets? I have not heard anything about this, and I'm pretty well tuned into what's going on with the ships, particularly at Celebrity.

I'd be interested to hear the source of your info, too. It's true that the Zenith is not a new ship, but when we sailed her last year through the Panama Canal, the staff seemed to be right on top of maintenance. We had no problems in our cabin at all. The few problems we did hear about from other passengers were taken care of promptly.

One of the things that has occurred on each ship I have been on (including the Zenith) is that at sometime or other someone puts something they should'nt into the sanitary system. It sometimes takes a while for staff to figure out exactly where the problem is but it's soon cured. Think about the logistics of 8oo people all returning from dinner about the same time. Put's a whole new perspective on cruising does it not??

My husband and I sailed on a 13 night Panama Canal cruise on the Zenith from New York to Acapulco in December of 1998. We were in a 10 deck suite. We had no problems with the toilet except for one night when it would not flush. We called maintenance, and almost before we put down the telephone, two crew members showed up at the door to our cabin to remedy the problem, which they did, pronto. No more problems!
My husband and I have taken over 25 cruises, on Cunard, Celebrity, Norwegian American, Home Lines, and Norwegian Caribbean. We rate Celebrity's evening entertainment outstanding; the cuisine excellent, and the service in the cabin and dining rooms very, very good. There are a myriad of daytime activities, and what we like about the ship is that there is no pressure to join in. One can check out a book from the library on board and snuggle up in a "quiet area" on the top deck, or one can participate in a putting contest out by the pool, attend a demonstration on scarf tying, take a tour of the kitchens, etc. and etc. It is up to the passenger as to just what they want to participate in and how much. There are no continual announcements over the public address system exhorting one to come to bingo, etc.
There is music to appeal to every taste: a Caribbean type band, an orchestra, a string quartet, a disco.
We were so pleased with our Zenith excursion that we did an Alaska cruise in May and hope to do a transatlantic on the Century in October. Bon voyage!

Ahh, the Zenith! My husband and I took our first cruise on the Zenith in 1994 to the Western Caribbean. The Zenith helped us not only fall in love with cruising, but with Celebrity as a cruise line. We have now booked another Celebrity cruise, this time on the Mercury next January, and I'm already "planning" to try to take the innagural cruise on one of the Millenium class ships when they come into service in 2000 or 2001. Although the Zenith is no longer a "new" cruise ship, I cannot imagine that Celebrity has not kept her looking spotless and gorgeous for her passengers. Celebrity has outstanding service and their standards are certainly tops in the industry.
