Can anyone provide us information regarding this Commodore Cruise Line Ship - the Universe Explorer? We plan to be on her Millenium Cruise out of Miami and would like more information about her history, cabins and public areas. All we know is that she serves as a sea-going university much of the time. We like the fact that this is not a "mega ship", but have not seen her in person! Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, and Happy Cruising!

The SS Universe Explorer is operated by World Explorer Cruises. According to FODOR'S '99 "The Best Cruises" she has sailed under more names than any other passenger ship. Built in 1957 as the Brasil, an ocean crossing vessel, it later became HAL's Volendam, then Bermuda Star Line's Queen of Bermuda, and most recently, Commodore's Enchanted Seas. You're right it is also used as a sea going university. If you want to see the interiors of the ship, including cabins, deck space, and lounges, all you have to do is tune into MTV. Yes, I said that cable music video channel MTV. Their show the "ROAD RULES" is currently featuring the ship as the backdrop as they follow a group of generation X'ers around the world. I have seen it a few times and they show alot of the ship usually. According to FODOR's the cabins are larger than most cruise chips since they were built for transatlantic travel. All rooms have televisions and telephones. Also the ship has four bars, five lounges, cinema, card room, library and a computer room.

Today I just happened to look at another cruise guide at the local Barnes and Noble. This guide ( I forget the name of it) listed Commodore Cruise Lines as still operating the Universe Explorer. If you find out who runs this ship can you please post it so I can notify the guide with the wrong information. Thanks.

The UNIVERSE EXPLORER is still owned by New Commodore Cruise Line. Since it is chartered by World Explorer Cruises, the technical operations are done by V-Ships (VLASOV Group), Monte Carlo.
Anyway, New Commodore does still publish programs of this ship since the marketing is done together with World Explorer Cruises.

Ok, i am way late, but the SSUE is run by Commodore, i even have the luggage tags to prove it. I was on the Spring 1999 voyage of Semester at Sea.. the same time that dreadful program Road Rules was filmed aboard the ship.
The SSUE travels easterly around the globe in the spring, and westerly in the fall. She spends her summers in Alaska.
If you want to see more pictures of her, and where she goes, please check out my web site, listed below. ~pete
