Has anyone recently gone on the Splendour?

We are trying to find out if the have a midnight buffet EVERY night?

We've been told that they cut out the midnight buffets and only have one during the entire cruise.

Is this true???

We are night people, and usually hit the midnight buffet every night for a snack.

Thanks for any info...

You did hear right, the midnight buffet’s are gone. They did serve snacks in the lounges around midnight, but it wasn’t worth waiting up for. Celerity cruise line still had a midnight buffet as of last September.
It seems that the midnight food buffet is going to be a thing of the past. (As is the movie cinema)

Well this really stinks!! What are the cruise lines trying to do? Kill themselves? Is this just RCCL? We are going on the Tropical in December, does Carnival still have the midnite buffets?

All is not lost - I quote from Holland America Line's Caribbean and Europe brochures for 2000
'LATE NIGHT SNACK - A LAVISH SPREAD SERVED NIGHTLY, THEN ONE DECADENT NIGHT, A BUFFET MADE ENTIRELY OF CHOCOLATE.'
Think positive - of the weight you won't gain and the diet you won't need when you return home.
A nightly midnight buffet (old style) could not possibly be cost effective for any cruise line....and if you really must have a midnight meal, there's always Room Service.

The Chocolate Extravaganza is heavenly! Get there early as everything goes quickly. I am always amazed at the number of people partaking of the midnight buffet. Obviously they have been to 1st seating for dinner, but how can anyone eat all that food at midnight and then go to bed on a full stomach. Not good.

There has to be a good side to this. At least the waiters get a longer break. Used to be that some of them were totally wiped out at breakfast service.

geez people....don't get enough to eat?

With all the alternate dining options it seems for the most part a midnight buffet is a waste of time and energy.

I recently sailed on the Carnival Triumph and they did have the one 'Gala' midnight buffet. It was nice to look at and the food was good.

The Triumph for example offered alternative dining in the South Beach Club till 10:00 pm, they have the 24 hour pizzeria, ceasor salad and calzonnes station and the NY deli stayed open till around 11:30 pm plus there's always room service available.

I sailed on the Grand Princess in Dec 98 and they've completely done away with the midnight buffets as the Horizon Court was open for alternative dining all night. Weigh it out....buffet or a made to order steak at 4 in the morning? I'd chose the steak myself.

How much food goes to waste on a cruise...espcially the buffets...

On as Passengers....Off as Cargo

I also think midnight buffets are a waste.
And most cruise lines are getting rid of it, doing exactly what RCCL is doing. Provide snacks and bar food through the night. This is better. Our cruise rates are high enough. We don't need to support the few late nighters who like a midnight snack. We usually only made half of the buffets. The Gala buffets are overrrated and not worth the picture taking and everything associated with it. The food is great and the presentation is fabulous, but I'd rather have chicken wings or salsa in one of the bars.

I agree "ascendancy". I think a lot of food is wasted at the midnight buffets. First cruise I went on I learned the lesson the hard way. "gorged myself at the midnight buffet" and had a upset stomach all night!

I for one am not in least worried about the end of midnight buffets, have cruised three times in the last 18mths never went to one. We can't believe the amount of food that is served on the cruise liners, it is a constant battle to watch the weight maybe they are doing us all a favour.
