Does anyone know if Royal Caribbean is still performing that skit "IF I WERE NOT UPON THE SEA"? When I worked on the ships, I was Sargent Major. "If I were not upon the sea there's something else I'd like to be, If I were not upon the sea, a Sargent Major me....Happy all day long....and this would be my song.....Left right left right, swing those bloody arms". That was a fun skit, but I'm wondering if the cruise staff still do it today.

The cruise staff did perform "if I were not upon the sea" on the VOT on the 1-23-00 sailing. I can't remember if they did it on the Splendour in Oct or not, some things were cancelled because we were in a north atlantic winter storm with average waves of 35ft for over 24 hours.

Yes it is still done on all the RCI ships. The first time I saw it I just howled with laughter and each time I see it I find it so funny as of course each crew does it a little differently.

Would you believe however that on our sailing on the Voyager some got up offended at the end when the Cruise Directors "balloons" were burst.

Some people just have no humour.

Barryboat: Quite interesting as My wife and I were approached by four others we met on the ship and preformed something like this in the early eighties. Only it started if I were not a Nordic Prince passenger someone else I'd rather be, If I were not a nordic prince passenger an undertacker me, and if you pass me by this is what you'd see! then the others would join in one at a time there were ( ice cream maker, window washer, flag pole sitter, birdy watcher, and one more I cannot think of. At the end everyone was doing there panamime of their character at the same time. Sounds like they took a good Idea and changed it somewhat. We still have the video somewhere and had the entire ship rolling in the isles! We still have the trophies somewhere!

On my very first cruise in 1994,I sailed on the OCEAN MONARCH on the EPIROTIKI CRUISE Line,in the Greek Islands.

At the end of the cruise, the staff all got together and did the most memorable version of "If I Were Not Upon The Sea".I had never seen it before and I thought it was hilarious. The passengers loved it.

I have since waited to see it done again on all my subsequent cruises but so far..nothing...
I'm glad now that I managed to get some good photos so that I can remember it and laugh again.

They did it on the Enchantment of the Seas sailing the week of 1-30-00. It was a riot. They were better then the booked comedians.
