I heard someone talking about buddy passes. I was wondering if anyone knew about them. Do all cruise lines have them?

I have never heard of them, do I assume you are saying a pass for someone to come and look at the ship before you sail. The cruise lines do NOT allow that due to security reasons.

DianaD I am sure it is very diffucult and maybe even rare. I do however have a question that you may have the answer? If the cruise lines Do Not allow guests Why on every cruise I have ever been on do they have in print and announce that all visitors be ashore one half hour before sailing? Who are they talking about?

My son works for one of the Airlines and they get 4 buddy passes a year. They are for friends or family to get great flights a mere charge of $ 40.00 return internationally and $ 20.00 return North America

Maybe these are the same idea

Buddy Passes are a North West Airlines perk for employees to give to friends and family to fly at Buddy Pass rates.

There are visitors on the ships nearly everytime the ship docks in it's main port of embarkation like Ft Lauderdale or Miami. If you know where and how to get them, they are available, even though there are signs everywhere that say no visitors allowed onboard. There are a lot of people who see the ships in port and say....hey, let's see if we can get a pass and a tour of the ship...that would be cool. That's one reason why the cruise lines don't issue visitor's passes at the terminal. Passes can usually be arranged in advance by contacting public relations at a cruise line, or getting through to the right person. Finding the right person who has the authority to issue a visitor's pass can sometimes be a trick, but be persistent.

When I go on a cruise, before boarding I do ships inspections of other ships in port, this helps me when I am selling cruises, when people ask me about certain ships I have done ship inspections of them, taken notes, seen different cabin categories etc. Travel Agents contact the cruise lines and they give us permission to do the inspections. Before boarding we have to present out business cards, driving licence, IATA (American IATAN) card. Sometimes we have someone who takes us around the ship, other times we do it on our own. We have to disembark 30 minutes before sailing. I hope this explains the "visitors" comment. Yes also there are crew visitors on board.
