I got my cruise documents yesterday for the Jun 17th sailing of the HAL Zaandam. In the documents it indicated that there would be 2 formal nights, 3 informal, and 2 elegant casual.

Everything I've seen before indicated that there would be 2 formal, 1 informal, and 4 elegant casual. I've also read some posts where people found out their cruise documents were not correct concerning this matter.

What should I believe and how do I confirm the true facts, because this causes me to purchase an extra sports jacket.

Don't buy another jacket - it isn't necessary. Yes, they do make mistakes as they did on one of our cruises. When we were on the Veendam last March, we had 2 formal, 2 informal & 3 casual - this for a 7 day cruise. First and last nights are always casual, + one for the BBQ night, then 2 informal, and 2 formal. Who knows who decides this - I don't know if it is at the whim of the Hotel Manager what you should wear each night, but I really think it is a directive from Head Office. They used to list "whose on board" on the first day's program and this was great because you could see if there was anyone on board you knew. Now, they put it on the last day's program, which is ridiculous. I asked the HM about this and he said it was a directive from HO - sometimes I wonder if they know what they are doing up there. If you are really concerned phone HAL, at 1-800-541-1576, but don't go out and buy another jacket. Even if there are 3 informal nights, wear the same jacket, no one cares and it is just more luggage to pack. Have a super trip.

We're with you Sympatico. One jacket
is plenty, that's all my husband takes. On a 7 day cruise, I usually
take about 4 long dresses. One really formal dress and the rest are
dressy, but they can be formal too.
I try to becareful not to over pack,
but it escapes me. But please, don't come to the dining room with shorts
at night. That's too "underdressed".
A jacket, nice shirt, tie, slacks
and comfy shoes. My husband wanted
me to say, no shoes. LOL LOL LOL.
HAVE FUN ON YOUR TRIP AND TAKE PHOTOS TOO.
