My husband and I will be travelling on the SS Norway Eastern Caribbean cruise next month. Does anyone have advice on what excursions to sign up for and avoid in St. Martin and St. John/St. Thomas?

My cruise friends went to Orient Beach in St Maartin and really liked it. There is nudity at that beach, so it isn't for everyone.

In St Thomas I really liked the open-air bus tour of the island's look out points. It was about $35/person and felt like a decent value. There were several stops to stretch your legs, take photos, and of course shop for souvenirs and booze. The driver was very personable and shared local information with some humor. I also liked that the tour was not an all-day thing, so when we were let off near the busy center of Charlotte Amalie, there was still plenty of time to have lunch and browse. But, with 5 HUGE ships in port, finding a restaurant without LONGGGG lines was a challenge.

I would suggest the Discover St. John tour. You would be riding in an open air pick-up truck with van seats in the back and you will get to see the many different beaches and bays as well as explore the ruins of an old sugar cane mill and will travel to the highest point on the island. Many great picture opportunities with knowledgable drivers. After the tour, I suggest a little shopping on the main street in St. John and a cute open air restaurant called The Mongoose for breakfast. You have to get up quite early for this tour!

Our group of 4 adults went on the St.John's sailing catamaran. It was great, Snorkling in clear, calm water of about 10 ft deep. Some coral and a number of fish. The shore was 100 ft from the anchored catamaran so we played on the beach awhile also. Then everybody parties, The catamaran drops you off at St. Thomas. The average age was 25-50. We went to the ship to change and eat lunch, that left plenty of time for shopping. the sailing starts at 7 am, so you get a longer day at these ports. We had a great time on the whole cruise except we had to skip the private island due to 15 ft swells, the Norway rides pretty smooth though.

Just a little story of what happened last week in St. Thomas. We were on High Powered Catamaran trip around St. Thomas.(it was fun) There were guests from the Grandeur and the Norway on board. I had several people sitting in front of me that came off the Norway. Anyways near the end of the trip the crew starts the TIPS routine...and the people in front of me say, well $130.00 for 2 of them was enough. Well I overheard this and we started talking about how much each of us spent. The Norway was charging $65.00 per head, while the Grandeur was charging $50.00 per head and $15.00 for children. Well were they all P-----off and quite a large group (around 35)of them decided that when they got back on the ship they were going to the excursions desk for an explanation. I would love to hear what happened.....Obviously N.C.L. likes to take a much bigger cut of action then R.C.I.
