Has any one taken the cruise on the Statendam
down the west coast of Mexico?

I have not cruised on the Statendam before, only toured through her once in Canada. But, I have taken two Mexican Riviera cruises in the last few years. If you have any questions about Mexico, I would gladly tell you
Don't bother changing your money. Carry small bills. They are on a barter system. It's usually half the price from what they quote you. Have you been to Mexico before?

Haven't done the Mexican Riveria on the Statendam, but did do it a couple of years ago (11 days San Diego roundtrip) on the Legend of the Seas. Very nice.

We sailed the Statendam last November from SanDiego - It was a great trip but very hot and humid. Cabo San Lucas, our first port, offered several tours - we opted for the whale watching and coastal cruise.
The Land's End Boat tour was very popular also. Unless you are regularly quite active I would suggest that you pay particular attention to the notes spelling out 'Easy Activity' - 'Moderate Activity' and 'Considerable Activity' - heat and humidity do take their toll and it's all too easy to over-exert yourself. For sure you should carry bottled water. Each port has it's local
market within reasonable distance of the pier. It's fun to barter for those 'must have' items. We stayed on board in Acapulco, having been there several times before - you might want to see the Cliff Divers - they are something to see. Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa are small fishing villages grown large and the bus tour is interesting. In Puerto Vallarta, lots of resort hotels all beautifully landscaped, we took in the Mexican Fiesta - don't really think it was worth the cost - we could have had a nicer, more relaxed meal on board.
Note that you are concerned about Lido dining - it is available on the Statendam and most other Holland America Line ships - nicely prepared and good variety of choices if you prefer a totally casual and sometimes noisy evening meal. We prefer to be waited on in the dining room.
Hope this helps - Go and enjoy :-)

Green has said it all.....and very informa-
tively. The Statendam is a great ship and
even if you do not enjoy all the ports, you
will love the ship.

Green is absolutely correct about the heat.
The humidity is oppressive and the temps.
are high......95-100 is not unusual.

I was in Puerto Vallarta a few years ago (not by ship) and we booked a tour that took us on a bus tour of the town and then up into the rainforest where we ate at this wonderful little restaurant by a waterfall. It had no electricity so everything that was served had been caught that day by the fishermen and brought up the hill to be cooked over the open pit stove. It was the best meal we had all week!

If some kind of tour like that is available through the ship or through land based agencies, I highly recommend it.

I came across some photos of a Mexican Riviera Cruise by some of their passengers. When you get to the site , on the left there is a list of cruise pictures that were sent in by fellow cruisers. Click on Mexico/ Stadendam. Click on the pic and then maximize it and it is almost wallpaper size. This is a great site for cruise pics! http://www.cruise-addicts.com/picturepost/

Mercy,

That's an interesting site in a number of ways and is a great example of how easily it is to create a site based on someone else's content.

If you look at their "Ship Info & Stats" notice how all of their ship photos are exactly the same as TravelPage.com's ship photos (size, position, shading and even file name) and all of their ship details are exactly like those on this site.

Here's an example...

TravelPage.com picture of the Maasdam (scanned in from our collection of ship images)

TravelPage.com ship specs written by me...

Operator: Holland America Line
Year Built / Last Refurbished: 1994
Length / Tonnage: 719'6" / 55,451
Number of Cabins / Passengers: 625 / 1,250
Officers / Crew: Dutch / Indo / Filipino
Operating Area: Winter Panama Canal cruises, spring Transatlantic, summer Mediterranean and Europe, fall Canada/New England, late fall Caribbean

The other site's picture

Other site's ship specs...

Operator: Holland America Line
Year Built / Last Refurbished: 1994
Length / Tonnage: 719'6" / 55,451
Number of Cabins / Passengers: 625 / 1,250
Officers / Crew: Dutch / Indo / Filipino
Operating Area: Winter in Caribbean summer in Alaska (...looks like the forgot to update their operating area description)

This is not the first time a site has "borrowed" content from TravelPage.com and it probably won't be the last but if you are going to take something from another site, the least you can do is modify it a bit before you claim it as your own.

Hi Joe - I think it is a shame that other sites can't find their own pictures. Also that they have to copy your forum.
That picture intrigued me, as isn't that the Aloha clock tower in Honolulu? As far as I know the Maasdam has not been to Hawaii, so wonder if it is the Statendam? I am going to send it to my friend in Honolulu and see what she has to say.

WOW Joe that is amazing! Had you seen that site before? Did one of the passengers post that picture? I like the homemade pictures posted by the cruise passengers. Mostly of the ports of call. I like to use them as wallpaper
I just found that site a couple of weeks ago.
Nice to hear from you!

Joe - Just had confirmation from my friend in Honolulu and that is definitely the Aloha Tower and she said as the Maasdam has not been to Honolulu, that is the Statendam!
