Does anyone know how formal my two boys need to dress for formal night? They don't own any suits and I was hoping that dark dress pants, white shirt and tie with black dress shoes would suffice? I don't remember looking at any of the children this past Jan. when we went on our first cruise without kids. Any suggestions would be grateful. Funny how you don't pay attention to children when yours aren't around.

I think they rent junior size tuxes. This would probably be cheaper than buying things for one event only which would never be used again.

Sounds great to me,denisej...

Suggestion...maybe a black or red clip-on bow-tie would make the boys feel more formal than wearing a regular tie.

I have seen small boys dressed this way at formal gatherings and they looked a picture.

Have fun with them and enjoy the formals.

TL :-))

I love the bow tie idea Terri Lee. That would be much dressier than just a tie. I didn't realize they rented junior tuxes. Thanks for all the input. I just didn't want them looking out of place.

Any of the recommendations above will be fine. We usually dress our son in Khaki pants, white shirt, tie and blazer.

Have fun!

We bought suits for my 4 and 11 year old. Kid suits cost about $50. at Sears and with a couple of shirts they looked great and the pictures were great as well. Others were just in just pants and a shirt but we wanted to follow the code.

I like the idea of young boys in a suit or
a blazer......however I like the idea of
a red bow-tie with a matching cummerbund...
a bright plaid would also look nice. I think
it's good for youngsters to feel that "je ne
sais quoi" that comes in a room full of
nicely and appropriately dressed cruisers.

Have a great time!!

I think the idea of cummerbund and plaid jacket might be going a little too far. Possibly the new two tone dress shoes might look good.

Topgun......

I suggested a red bow-tie/red cummerbund
combination worn without a jacket or a
plaid bow-tie/plaid cummerbund worn with-
out a jacket....naturally the plaid matches.

On the formal nights on our July 6 Rembrand cruise to the Northeast, several youngsters looked smashing in blazer (or sport coat) white shirt,clip-on bows, and khaki slacks.

And their photos looked great too.

K&K,

The boys talk about the trip very rarely, they're at that age where going for ice cream somewhere is something reeally to look forward to. I don't think they have a clue as to what they're in for. As far as me my husband and I, we are very very excited. I think about it every day. It'll be different with kids though. Hardly even thought about them on our Southern Caribbean cruise last Jan. When you're with another couple and hitting an island each day, there's hardly time to think you're so busy. Never thought we'd do a second cruise for many many years, but we actually got a return on our income tax this year (rare), so we thought we'd try a 4 night with the boys to Bahamas. Turned out that a 7 night Eastern cost us only a total of $300 more because of a special for $74 pp for 3rd and 4th person.

I think I might search out some reasonably priced blazers. I suppose they may use them sometime before outgrowing them. They would look quite a bit more dressy. But I'm not sure yet.

I'm trying to save where I can because I screwed up on Priceline.com on our flight and had to cancel it and resubmit the request at a cost of $50 more per ticket ($200 total extra).
