We are in our 30's and are planning a cruise vacation. We have narrowed the choices to the Voyager of the Seas and the Grand Princess. I have read a lot of conflicting information about both ships. I would appreciate all of your expert opinions. Thank you.

It depends on what type of experience you want. We have cruised on both the Grand and the Voyager. Our experience on the Voyager was awful - end of Jan over 300 unruly kids and RCI refused to enforce any of their rules. Would certainly check any possible school holidays. It was the worst cruise we have ever been on (it was #24 for us). The ship itself is quite unique, food and service were OK, have had better on other RCI ships, they were short staffed, but I think this we will see more and more as more and more ships come on line. The Grand is just that Grand, no rollerblading, no rockclimbing, no putt-putt, just a Grand ship. Food and service and cabins were excellent. Would go on her again in a minute. Wounln't mind going on the Voyager again, just am a little apprensive about the kid problems they have had.

I wouldn't go on either......but then I am
not in my 30's and I don't like ships that
huge except for a crossing. I would, however,
choose Princess over RCI.

Suz We have been on both also and we enjoyed them.I agree with jwine about the food and service. We did not have a kid problem on our cruise,we were lucky.
My feelings are the Voyager is something to experiance and easier to get around.
If you have any specific questions just ask.

I absolutely LOVED the Voyager! We didn't have a "kid problem" at all. (We sailed in Feb 2000) They were very strict with misbehaving children on our sailing...enforcing rules, etc...No kids allowed in the hot tubs without adults present, no kids in the lounges without their parents, etc... It wasn't a problem at all. (And I was specifically looking for it from all the comments on this board.)

My husband and I are in our late 20s. We found Princess to be a little "stuffy" and the entertainment was very dry and somewhat boring. The entertainment on the Voyager was OUTSTANDING. Much, much better than on the Princess. (We were on the Dawn Princess, though, not the Grand.) Personally, I just didn't care much for the Princess line in general. (Don't get me wrong - we didn't have a bad time...we just have had much better cruises on other lines. We just had to make our own fun on Princess.)

I strongly recommend the Voyager. It truly is an amazing ship and a really great time. We also liked our cruise director A LOT more on the Voyager - Ken Rush. Very funny and very entertaining. Our cruise director on the Dawn was the worst cruise director we've ever had - very boring and not entertaining at all. I think that the cruise director has a lot to do with the "tone" of the ship.

The rooms were very nice - quite big, actually! I especially liked the fact that the ship doesn't rock as much as the other smaller ships, so those prone to motion sickness don't have much of a problem on this ship. (I guess the Grand is big enough also that I bet there's not much movement on her either...but I don't know.)

Any questions, please ask! I would go on Voyager again in a heartbeat.

Have to agree with NAL , I wouldn't go on either, unless it was super, supercheap. Those two ships are too big for me.

I'm 33 and I have to agree with Laura. I don't know how old jwine and Malcolm are but it seems like the Grand Princess is geared to a slightly older crowd. I have been on both and had a terrible experience on Grand Princess and a wonderful experience on Voyager. I guess it depends on the fates to some extent. Anyone two people could have completely different experiences on the same ship even if they are the same age.

My two main problems with the Grand Princess were:

1) Loud creaking in the cabin
2) Terrible food.

If you like I could make a wav file for you (I taped it). The creaking was so bad that they sent a team of engineers to fix it. They were unable to do anything about it. After three days of no sleep and hounding the pursers desk, they finally moved us to another room. The new room also had a slight creak but it was bearable. I've heard an occasional sound on other ships but nothing like this one. Maybe it was because the ship was rocking so badly. The seas were not even that bad so I think it was just poor engineering. To make matters worse, the staff was not very nice about it either. I had to hound them to get anything done and after they moved me it would have been nice for someone to follow up to see if I was content. They just didn't go the extra mile.

The Voyager does have many children but they have their own areas and they didn't cause any trouble on our cruise. I could definitely see how a few bad apples can make a big difference, but that could happen on any ship. Overall, I found the entertainment on the Voyager to be very good. The food was not as good as I had on Grandeur of Enchantment but was better than Grand Princess. I also liked the layout of the Voyager alot better. The Royal Promenade makes it very easy to get around the ship and get your bearings. If you are active, this ship is your choice, hands down. The rollerblade rink is a little small to get any real workout in but there is a full court basketball/volleyball, ice skating, and the rock climbing is very cool!

Like I said, I think the Grand Princess appeals to a slightly older clientel. I think you will like the Voyager better. Others on our cruise on Princess advised us that we should not use Grand Princess to judge Princess and I believe them. Grand Princess (by their own description) is a huge ship with a small ship feel. If you want a small ship feel, I think you would do better to book a smaller ship where you will get better food and a more intimate feel. If you want a big ship with all the toys, Voyager is the way to go. We have already booked Explorer (sister ship) for Christmas.
