We are booked for our 4th cruise but first ever on RCCL. Been on Carnival Fascination, Fantasy and Destiny we are wondering about the Fun Ship atmosphere. We are booked for the Sovereign 4-day to the Bahamas. We are two married ladies (23 and 29) and are looking for fun and relaxing vacation.

We had a great "run-of-the-ship" deal and could not say no. We ending up in a cat. G outside on main deck for 323 $ incl. port charges. So get ready RCCL here we come!

Any advice on that ship?

It seems you like very much much the atmosphere of the Carnival ships.
Certainly, the SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS (it was the first mega-ship of a series of three sisterships delivered to RCCL in 1998) is not to be compared with Carnival ships.
The typical "fun-ship-atmosphere" like Carnival has, does not exist in this style on the RCCL ships.
RCCL on the other side offers much better food quality, their ships, in my eyes, have a much nicer interior design and the amibiance can anyway be funny and relaxed when you find the right people to be with.
The SOVEREIGN is about the same size like Carnival´s FANTASY-class vessels. Service is really friendly and the crew does a very good job.
I hope you´ll enjoy the cruise !

Nath -

You'll have a great time on Sovereign. Size wise about the same as Carnival Fantasy class ships. True Sovereign will be more elegant than Carnival. Personally I've enjoyed both. Carnival is definately more festive and geared to nighttime entertainment than RCL but both offer a great product. I'd rate the food and service much the same on both. Been on several Carnival cruises and a couple RCL and have never really had any complaints on either. Both do a great job in my opinion.

Have Fun!

You can't really compare apples to oranges. RCI is much different than Carnival. RCI is more contemperary and doesn't have the "party" atmosphere that Carnival does. The Sovereign really is a beautiful ship and she was specifically made for 3 and 4 night cruises. I think you'll enjoy her.

The Sovereign originally did a 7 day Eastern caribbean until about 3 years ago, when they switched her to 3 and 4 days which is what they are doing with the Majesty starting in 1-01. The Nordic Empress was the original 3 & 4 day until they moved her to San Juan and started doing 3 & 4 day cruises from there. The Sovereign is a beautiful ship, no doubt about it.

Sovereign of the Seas was inaugurated in 1988, Roselyn Carter christened her in Miami. We sailed on her in Feb. 1989, she was truly a beutiful ship, she did the 7 day Eastern Caribbean then. I talked to my TA about sailing her again, but she warned me after all the 3 or 4 day sailings the ship is truly showing her age.

Nath:

In the cruising world, there are many cheerleaders. They will profess to you on how GREAT their favorite line is compared to another. It's like Yankees fans vs. Red Sox fans. As a general rule, 3 and 4 day cruises attract younger people and are more of the partying type cruise.
