Am curious to know what everyone's favorite cruise ship is and why. If anyone sailed on a cruise line more than once, what made you go back? I have been on 3 cruises, 2 on Celebrity, just got back from Millennium. So far that ship is my favorite.

I have done three cruises, all with Airtours. I always go back to them because the value is superb, the ships are so friendly, I can usually fly direct from my local airport (to the med anyway) and I don't like the competition's ships (well, maybe First Choice, but not Thomson). I would love to try a brand spankin new ship, especially Millennium, but I love my cruises with Airtours and I would definately return.

Paddy.

Patrick...that sounds almost like a TAs blurb. Tell you what, she looked sort of scruffy on the outside when we saw her last year in Lyttleton, and she was smoking a bit - she'd get fined for that in Alaska...peter

I've sailed on quite a few ships and been fortunate to visit many more and for me the answer is easy, P&O's lovely ocean liner Victoria. She has all the classic features, sheared decks, real wood panelling everywhere, teak exterior decks, excellent food, is well run and is just about the right size for me. Pity P&O damaged her exterior looks so much when they converted her from Swedish America's Kungsholm in 1979, but her interior is still supurb. Americans may best remember her from her time as Sea Princess with Princess Cruises.

The Queen Elizabeth 2. There is just that "thing" about her. My second is the Horizon. Despite her poor stability, I found her interiors to be warm and inviting. No big megarooms (save the theater). She's just so homey and to me possesses an almost yacht-like quality.

We fell in love with the Gemini - she sails from Singapore up the coast of Malaysia to Thailand. Gemini has a wonderful oriental crew. A "choir" sings to you all over the ship, especially when waiting to disembark for tours. Really friendly ship, great oriental flavour food. Cabins superb - we paid £150 extra for mini suite and got a good sized picture window, free slippers and towelling robe (for the week). The back end of the ship was wonderfull - tier upon tier of places to sit. Can really recommend her and she's not too expensive. Singapore's a great place to visit too, we stayed on Sentosa Island in the Shangri La Hotel - mmmm mmmm! Janet

Norway and the Queen Elizabeth 2. Norway, because there is something majestic about this unique cruise ship. To know she was one of the last true great ocean liners. She had and has a wonderful design. Even with her two decks, she looks wonderful.

Queen Elizabeth 2: Because, she is a true ocean liner, doing rugularly trans-atlantic crossings. She also has a beutiful design.
Her interiors are just wonderful. She can reach a top speed of 30 knots, which few cruise ships can do. That's why these are my favorit. I have a wall in my house especially for the Queen Elizabeth 2 for her pictures etc. I also have a wall for the Norway. I plan to go on Norway April 7 2001 on her 8 day Western Caribbean.

Well, it will be unusual... but I like the older LA PALMA... an old, but nice ship... I cruised on her in 1995. Do anybody have information about the ship´s future?

Hallo Karsten,

I´ve been on the LA PALMA too. It is an old, much used but anyway comfortable and familiar vessel.
The PALMA does now lay at Eleusis Bay near Piraeus. She is totally rusted and is currently waiting for the take-over by its new owners Louis Lines. But the problem is that Intercruise Ltd., the former owner, did not yet pay open bills and the Greek authorities keep the ship arrested.
The problems will probably not be solved soon and I expect the ship not to be taken in service anymore by Louis Lines. They took already over the SERENADE (ex MERMOZ) and CALYPSO now. I expect the LA PALMA to be scrapped.

My favourite ship (so far) is the Disney Magic. It is such a happy and cheerful ship (the ships whistle plays "when you wish upon a star" which the child in me liked), the entertainment is good, the cabins large, the restaurants something different, and the crew friendly.

I've tried HAL,NCL(x2),RCCL(x2), and always return to Celebrity (4 times). We're sailing with Princess for the first time in November,on the Crown. The Horizon (1994) is my favorite because at that time, food, service and overall experience was great! I'm sure Princess will rate equal to or close to Celebrity.

Regards...Bob

The Rotterdam is part of the Holland America fleet, in fact it is the flagship.

Having only cruised on one ship so far, my opinion is maybe not worth much. But my favorite ship is the one I cruised on, the Zaandam. She is beautiful inside and out IMHO.

For me it is P&O's Victoria now that Canberra is gone. Rounding out the top 5 are Norway, Horizon, Noordam and QE2. All them rank high on my list, owing to old world charm and the ability to know that you are on a ship-not at a resort!
