Has anyone been on the Noordam recently? I heard it was refurbished. We are thinking about going on the 14- day southern caribbean next year. Has anyone done this route?

NOORDAM had a $3 million refit before her current European season. No major redesigns were involved, just recarpeting, fresh wall coverings, chairs, etc. They just spiffed her up a bit.

Hi Bonny:

I think you'll really like the Noordam. I was on Nieuw Amsterdam a couple of years ago and loved it. It is very maritime. It feels like a real ship and the staff was the best I've ever had. I understand the two ships were nearly identical.

As you probably know the NA has been sold and is going to be reflagged for Hawaii cruises.

Yes, I think you will enjoy the Noordam. We were on her for 23 days around South America just prior to the drydocking for overhaul and they were already getting started with refurbishing some of the cabins. The overhaul was definitely needed. A couple of the elevators were were disabled as were some of the self-service washers. We still liked the ship - our third time on it - and would, or probably will go again. She also suffered some structural damage in a storm and we have heard had more on her way to Portugal and the drydock.

We were on the Niew Amsterdam (Noordam's sister ship) about 5 years ago in the Western Caribbean. Had a great time; however, we booked late and stayed in a room quite far down on the ship. Found it to be quite noisy. If possible, suggest that you book a room on a higher deck. Keep in mind too, that it is an older ship and it doesn't have a lot of the amenitites of the newer ships. By the way, we are also thinking of the 14 day on the Noordam in Jan / Feb. Which sailing are you booking?

Hi, Bonnie Just wanted to let you know I was on the Nieuw Amsterdam March of this year with my daughter. We traveled the same itinerary that the Noordam will be doing beginning January 2001. It was a great cruise, alot of ports. 14 days is a great cruise, and living in Tampa where the cruise started and ended made it very convienient for us. I love Holland America cruises, excellent service and a good value.

Darlene,

We are booked on the March 4 sailing. I am really looking forward to it. It will be the longest cruise we've taken.

Hi Bonny: You'll really enjoy the 14 day cruise. We've done 7, 10, 12 and 17 day cruises. All have been excellent; but I find that 7 days is not enough. I prefer at least 10 or more. After our last cruise (17 day on the Radisson Seven Seas Navigator) I didn't want to leave. It felt liked I belonged there forever!!! By the way, we've tentatively booked Jan. 21st for our cruise on the Noordam. Our winters are so long and cold that by the end of January I'm really ready for sun and fun - I don't think I could wait until March!
