Hey everybody...

Got back from New York yesterday. Had a blast. One of the high points had to be seeing the HORIZON, ZENITH and EDINBURGH CASTLE depart Saturday afternoon. All three ships looked sharp, though I thought (and several of the other shipwatchers) that the EDINBURGH's red hull looked a tad garish, and detracted from the appearance of an otherwise still-beautiful ship. My best friend thought the Celebrity twins sat too high out of the water. Has anyone who sailed them available to comment on this? Are they tender ships? I think they are beautiful, and this is the first time I saw them in the flesh (so to speak).

Hi, Rex

Your friend was right in commenting that the Celebrity ships are really high. When I saw Mercury and Millennium, I was like whoa, they are like large buildings. I thought that they were nice ships inside and out. But I can't say that I have heard of Edinburgh Castle. What line is it apart of?

The Edinburgh Castle is a Premier Lines ship.

I have sailed the Zenith to and from Bermuda.
She is not a particularly good seaboat. As
many know, this short run to Bermuda from
NYC can be rough. As a frequent traveler to
Bermuda on the Sea Venture, Franconia,
Statendam [1957], Volendam [1957], Veendam
[1957], Royal Viking Star, and Westward,
the Zenith is the poorest seaboat in this
group of ships.
I am happy to hear the Eugenio Costa's
beautiful lines show up through the red
paint.

Compared to the Celebrity twins, the EDINBURGH CASTLE looks a lot more steady in the water, and has a more traditional shape. I have never sailed Premier, but with the exception of the REMBRANDT and the SEAWIND CROWN, I have not heard good things about their ships on this website.

But it was great to see some cruise ships. I have not seen an active ship up close since one of the Silversea twins was docked at Penn's Landing in 1998!!
