My girlfriend (wife) and I will be cruising the eastern Caribbean in Feb. We need to decide between the Carnival Victory or the Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas as our cruise ship. The Victory will not arrive at San Juan until 6pm and stay until 2am where as the Explorer will spend a normal day at San Juan. The Explorer also visits Labadee instead of St. Criox. Both visit St. Thomas.
How is Carnivals San Juan twlight visit and how is Royal Caribbean's Labadee's visit. Would you take Rocky (Carnival) or Bullwinkle (RCCL).

cncservo We were on the Voyager Of The Seas last Feb. and the Victory last month, I would do the Exployer. The Victory was our 1st Carnaval experiance,I wasn't impressed with the decor, the Voyager or Explorer in my opinion is something to see.
We are booked on the Explorer for Feb.The main reason was the $813.ppinc port for cat n,last year was$900

cncservo,

From past experience, Rocky (Carnival)is more of a "PAR-TY" cruise with a younger more relaxed crowd and Bullwinkle (RCCL) has an older, ah, more mature, ah, (well lets just say just about everyone was out of college)clientele. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Enjoy your cruise.

Nancy

Definitly Bulwinkle (RCI). Some attractions in San Jaun are closed after 6:00pm....like the big fort at the opening of the harbor. There are things to see in San Jaun....more than just the night life. I worked on the Zenith when she did that late visit to San Jaun, and I would have preferred getting there earlier.

Labadee is GREAT!!!! It's secluded, you can buy lots of cool local Haitian trinkets, like wood and stone carvings. The beaches are very nice and the barbeque on the beach is good. Snorkeling is not good in Labadee so don't waste your time with that. Other water activities are fun though.

I disagreee with the statement made by NAbbott that Carnival is the more party ship and there is a more mature crowd on RCI. It is my professional observation having worked on Royal Caribbean and then going over to visit Carnival ships that both cruise lines have nearly the same median range of ages. Carnival is becoming no more a "party" ship than RCI. People are on vacation so they live it up whether they are on Carnival or Royal Caribbean International. I will say, however, that Royal Caribbean tends to have a more classy environment onboard, which may keep passengers in a more relaxed mood. But if you want to have fun on RCI there's no stopping anyone.
