My husband and I have booked on the voyager for Feb. 25th 2001. I have heard many stories about kids running wild and annoying passengers. Does anyone know if this has been taken care of? or if ther are better times to cruise than others to avoid this problem? Don't get me wrong,I love children. I just don't want to be driven nuts throughout my entire vacation. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I dont think you should have trouble on that date as most children should be at school. We had no problems at all on the Voyager last January, however people the week before us did but that was due to their being a weeks vacation in New York state. I gather RCI has dealt with the problem by using more Security. I really think they were surprised at the problems they had.

Thanks so much for the input Diana. I had a feeling that we might not have a problem during that date.I was just a little nervous about it.(Had heard a lot of bad stories!)

I sailed Voyager July 16th, the height of the summer. There were a LOT of children, obviously but the overwhelming majority of them were well behaved. The only kids I noticed that were misbehaving were children from South America. During some of the shows they were talking loudly in Portugese, and on the sun deck three of them were standing on the railing. I was concerned they would fall overboard. There were also some drunk South American teenagers vut they looked to be about 18. I never saw any kids in the casino or the hot tubs. Towards the end of the cruise you noticed kids a lot more but nothing to ruin the experience of the cruise. I do think RCI could tighten its children's program. I sailed the enchantment in the summer 2 years ago and never realized the ship had over 500 children on board. I think many things have gone down since the new CEO took over.

we are sailing on ocean princess for xmas and after reading the boards for so long have now come to realize that lots of families cruise at xmas:-( I have been told that princess lines now put a limit on the number of children allowed on any one cruise, anyone have any idea what this limit is, I`d hate to have a cruise ruined by naughty children!!...jean

Anyone who has seen RCCL's advertising for this ship should not be surprised they are attracting an unruly crowd. The ads practically SCREAM come aboard and act like animals!

If there are any unruly kids onboard, the best thing to do is simply Push them overboard. It's hard the first time, especially if they scream and look sad, which they often do, but soon u will learn to enjoy and eventually you will be able to push that wee old granny who annoys everyone off as well!

Paddy.

Of course I am only joking (I hope nobody takes that the wrong way!) But seriously, if there are annoying kids onboard, and lots of them, (a) complain and (b) complain. To both the crew and parents. Its your vacation and you have the right to enjoy it, but hvaing said that, its their vacation también, so before you do take any action, please ask yourself if you are being irrational first, and if it really is unacceptable behaviour, complain. It might actually be a good idea to try and videotape some of their bahaviour, and even better if you can get their passive parents (but don't get caught up in spending your cruise recording onboard families!).

I suppose throwing naughty children overboard is one option. Fortunaly not one I would be capable of considering. (I got quite a good laugh from your reply Paddy!)I'm just glad I'm not traveling during the height of school vacation time.

Paddy, from previous posts, I dont believe that you have ever cruised out of an American port of origin with a load of unruly kids on board. The experience is next to sheer hell.
The remedies of tossing them overboard become more than a fantasy. In fact you dream about it while counting off the days to getting home and normality.

All my cruises have been in peak summer season and on the last one on Seawing, a relatively small ship, there were plenty of kids onboard, and quite a few were unruly and noisy. Imagine a ship with only one pool and less than 10 nightspots! I simply put a strong sedative on their food every day! Sorted them out.

Paddy.

P.S. This is a disclaimer stating that anmything I say on this post that sounds remotely surreal is not true. For once, don't take me too seriously!

I agree with JMPERRY1. The new ads for RCI are directed at a much younger and wilder crowd. A gamble I think but they need to fill up these big ships. Could push alumni passangers to another line.

We sailed on VOTS during the exact same week in Feb. 2000 and didn't have any problems at all. In fact, I was expecting problems because of everything I read on this board. However, I DID notice the crew really, really, really enforcing rules...it was very obvious that it had been a real problem and the crew was doing everything they could to prevent it from happening again.

We had a GREAT time...don't let it scare you! And like paddy said, if they do become a problem, just throw em overboard! Haha!

Thanks for the reply on both my topics Laura! I'm not concerned about it now. I just hope RCI has taken care of this issue for the passengers who are traveling with volumes of kids. It's ridiculous that RCI isn't planning on limiting the amount of children they allow on the ships. they cannot honestly assume that all the children will be kept under control. I read an informative article on this if anyone is interested.

We were on the Zenith in August, there were quite a few children on board, and the childrens programme for the teenagers was not that great, however, the teenagers were behaved very well indeed. I remarked on it to my husband as we really had expected some problems and there were none.
