I am scheduled to cruise on Millenium this winter and have read mixed reviews about other people's experiences, expecially about surly staff and poor service. I want to be comfortable and pampered. Has anyone been on Millenium? What was your experience?

I sailed on Millenium in August to the Baltic. The service we had was excellent, the food was very good, except for room service which was below average. The ship itself is beautiful and well laid out.

Now all this said, I know that some of the staff was put on the ship as "start-up" crew. They were supposedly Celebrity's best and some were to transfer to the "Infinity" for start-up once she sets sail.

So, all I can say for sure is that the ship is wonderful, the food was excellent (and should continue to be) and the crew was very friendly. I've found over and over, the attitude you give, is the attitude you get. Remember, your on vacation!

I don't think you'll be dissappointed.

Have fun!

Hi AGT, Was the British lady 'Social Hostess' Amand Reid aboard? They seem to put her on every new Celebrity ship. I keep forgetting her name. She starred in the TV 'Cruise' Docusoap!

Yes, Amanda Reid is Social Hostess an board the Millenium.
I leave the ship after an mediterranean Cruise in Genova on 23rd of October.
Food is excellent, the ship very nice.
Crew is willing an a lot of them are very good.
Because Celebrity needs a lot af new people for all the new ships, some of them are
unexperienced.
I myself start Cruising in 1981 with the "Ivan Franco" of Black Sea Shipping Company and be very experienced (35 cruises, about 450 days on sea)
All the time with my wife (always the same...)

Greetings from Black Forest, Germany

Welcome aboard Schaljapin. It's nice to see more Europeans taking part.

We love your ship the 'SS Deutschland', although few of us have been on her, yet

Hello, Malcolm.
Hm, the MS (not SS, it is diesel-engine-powered, 12.300 hp) Deutschland belongs to Deilmann.
Deilmann has in the past problems with the workers unions, his ships have german flag, but in second register, so not the same standard as first-registered ships for the people working on board.
Prices are extremely expensive, value is not as high as the prices are.
I have no experience with Deilmann ships, but knew, that he has on his other Ship "Berlin"
often special offers and problems to fill it.

When starting, the Deutschland has problems with noise from the propulsion system, they change some parts of it.

All six weeks an other chief cook, 2-bed-inside cabins very small, so they sell it now as 1-bed-cabin.

Rating in Berlitz by Douglas Ward was 4 Stars
plus, i think, this was corrtect.

Deilmann goes to court, they forbit the distribution of the german edition of Berlitz, so all the books were taken from the market.

English spoken edition was allowed to be distributed in Germany, so i see that.

In the edition 2000 is no more an Deilmann
ship in the Berlitz, because Douglas Ward
did not rate them longer...

The edition 2001 is ordered but not delivered,
i expect it end of November, beginning December.

The better company is Hapag-Lloyd, but very expensive, too.

For me too expensive...

I have booked the "Summit", starting 1st of October 2001 in Fort Lauderdale sailing for
Mexico, CXosta Rica, Panama and Colombia
for next year, Price: DM 1.999 in inside-cabin with double bed excluding flights.
The flights will cost about 700 Marks with KLM starting Amsterdam.

The second Cruise is with the "Switzerland",
an very old 3-star vessel starting 14th of April in Montego Bay and sailing to Amsterdam.

Price in an 2-bed outside Cabin ist DM 3.700,--, including the Flights from Frankfurt to Zürich, Miami, Montego Bay with "Swissair".

22 days for about 1.650 US Dollars per Person.

Service is Ukrainean, Ship the former Costa Liner "Daphne", big but old cabins with real bathtube (in the cheapest category).

Chief cook from germany, food is budget but on german/swiss taste, plento of deck space, the ship has 15.739 gross tons and only 422 passengers, when it is full on basis-2-bed.

Crew: 210.

Very stable at sea, draft is 8,66 meters, this is more then the "Millenium" with 91.000
tons.

Cabins 150-400 sqare feet, = 14-37 sqare meters.

Restaurant one course, 1 pool outside, 2 wirlpools.

The cheapest inside cabin for this cruise is german marks 2.800 that means US Dollars
1.250 for 22 days including flights.

Werner
