Many years ago while we were on our first cruise (the old Voldendam) we had to stay in Curacao for 2 days due to engine problems. Not a bad place to stay and we had fun. We missed 2 ports of call, got 50% off next cruise and from then we just kept cruising.
I am sure the will get the problem fixed soon.

Malcolm: Did you make Cruise Director at 1500 posts of for some other reason! Maybe you slipped Joe a little money? I think Sympatico would make a great Cruise Director, although I have not seen a (female) in person. I have seen asst. Cruise Directors that were women assuming the next step is director or maybe asst. is the glass ceiling! Anyone met a Women Cruise Director?Kevin

K&K on our cruise on the Tropicalein 1998 we had a women cruise director. She was very nice but she wouldn't shut up. LOL the assistant cruise director (a VERY funny British fellow) would always stand behind her and mimic her always talking. He was a riot!!! From what I remember she was doing her last cruise on the Tropicale before going to another ship and the assistant was going to take over as cruise director. She was very graceful being the butt of his jokes.

Kevin- Susan Wood of Holland America, has been one of their top Cruise Directors for a number of years. She is a great gal - believe she is British then again could be Australian. Everyone loves her.
Malcolm - don't you start - I had a husband who was always complaining that dinner was not on the table at 6:30pm because I was on the computer. Now I can stay here all day and no one tells me to get off the net. Actually, I rarely surf the net - just Travel Page! I'm my own woman!!!!! Obviously with over 1700 posts you have nothing better to do either and you're not retired!

There was a woman CD on the Veendam two years ago, took Chris Jurassas' place. I think her name might have been Barbara. I never saw her in action because I didn't happen to be at her activities. We got along well, tho some posts said she wasn't that good. Don't know.

Hi K&K, I've no idea why Joe made me a Cruise Director - maybe it was my quantity of posts, rather than quality? I'm certainly very hounered. (Maybe it was something to do with my donation of $1000 to his account?)

I've never seen a femal cruise director yet, but Britain had a female Prime Minister, so anything is possible!

Next women will be asking for the vote!

Malcom, God will get you for that. She is getting quite annoyed.

Linda was cruise director on the "docked Rembrandt". She was excellent. I read there are three women captains. I'll have to find that to tell you which ships. Bet they dont even have time to go out and vote.

The Veendam has a female cruise director. Her name is Yvette (can't remember last name). I had previously met her on the Westerdam where she was the ships hostess. She has been with HAL for 11 years and has a great personality, and in my opinion, is doing a great job.

Yvette's last name is Sechrist - this from the list you sent me. I remember her when she was a Hostess.

Well, I am glad to hear that there are female cruise directors out there! It also sounds that most are good ones too. So they earned their position and was not part of a quota.

Malcolm, in all serious I think it had to do with the quality of your posts!

Sympatico, If Travel Page launches a new ship I hope you get the job of Cruise Director. Between you and Malcolm your insights, information are invaluable to this line and you both have the ability to keep the peace. Kevin

I feel compelled to follow up on Justine's comment about Linda, the cruise director on foresaken Rembrandt. Linda was an absolutely wonderful cruise director. She would be a fine addition to any ship. I think that she would do well on a Carnival or RCI ship. Linda if you are out there, Great Job!
