I have come upon lots of information recently saying that the QM2 is a done deal. I've seen the pictures and it looks as though it will be a fabulous ship. I'm curious though, I've read that they will be targeting a "high end" market. Does anyone have an educated guess as to how much these tickets may go for? It has been said the Queen Mary 2 will set sail in 2003.

Emgrace, I've no idea and I doubt that anyone else has, yet!

Most ships offer a wide range of cabins and prices. Cunard generally target the 'high end'. However, If we look at the QE2, the price differential between cabin grades is enormous - you can pay £600 or £6000, or more! On occasions you can take a QE2 Transatlantic cheaper than an Airtours Cruise! (However, any QE2 'bargains' are of course based on a tiny inside cabin)

The QM2's first season is likely to be a little more expensive, new builds always are, but the price will drop.

It will be interesting to see if the QE2 prices drop when the QM2 is in service. However, they are unlikely to compete with each other - I suspect they will offer very different itiniaries?

Best to start saving up now

...once again everybody is getting very excited about this newbuild (QM2). There is nothing wrong with that,it is an exciting project.

However I'd like to see a few more people getting excited about the Norway and QE2 etc. You get a better price and a larger slice of history for your dollar!

emgrace, I've got a little more info, not a lot, but a little more:

Cunard has yet to announce the cost of fares, but Queen Mary 2 berths will be considerably more expensive than those on the Queen Elizabeth 2 (on the 23rd of March 2000 the Berlin on-line web site quotes a fare of US$5,360 a day for a duplex suite).

Malcolm, Thanks for the info. I think $5,000 per day is far more than I'd ever be willing to spend. But then again I don't think I'd be requiring a duplex suite either. The QM2 will have to be some ship! I would love to try a transatlantic cruise next year. You've had a lot of wonderful things to say about the QE2, also seems as though we could get a pretty reasonable rate. Maybe we'll look into it. Thanks again!

...each summer Cunard offer some of the QE2's inside cabins, on the Transatlantic trip, at geat prices. Air fare is included. These fares appear 2-3 months before departure.

I've seen a prices of £750 ($1000)this summer- inc. return flight from London.

Malcolm, That's not a bad price! Thanks for all the info. It's not set in stone but the availability of good deal will make or break our decision.

emgrace, the special Cunard 'offers' do not appear in their brouchures. You will need to keep your ear to the ground - check out their web site later next year. Phone the office up etc

EMGrace--Recently received this offer from Cunard. Works out to about $154 (approximately 110 pounds sterling) per day, including roundtrip airfare. Probably for an M5 inside cabin. Can save an addtional 10 percent if you have traveled on any other Carnival lines.
