Those of you that has cruised on the Voyager or Explorer of the Seas; What type of information does one receive on location of the restaurants, recreation facilities, deck layout etc. from RCCL. With the many different locations to visit on these hugh beasts I thought of making my own guide to locate the various estiblishments. We will be sailing the Explorer in Feb.
Whats your method of keeping track (not getting lost) when searching for your favorite location aboard any GIGA liner.

I've not cruised on the Explorer, but I have cruised on a big 'ship'. I can offer some general advice.

O.k. you've probably got 14 decks which is pretty mind blowing. Now decks 1 and 2 are normally the crew decks, so there is no need to worry about them. We now only have 12 decks to worry about. The upper most deck is often the pool/sports deck - that's easy to find, it's the very top one. Now we've only got 11 decks. All the public rooms normally occupy one or two decks, at most. The rest of the decks are mainly full of cabins.

It can be more difficult to find your way back to your cabin than it is to find your way to the pool or theatre. It is easy to walk down the wrong corridor - after all they all look a bit the same! However, help is at hand. Every staircase landing has a plan mounted on the wall with a 'you are here'. Corridors often have colour coded carpets and sometimes colour coded doors. There are always sign's saying stuff like "Cabin Numbers 100 to 200".

I think the secret is to look for landmarks on your deck, near your cabin and remember which staircase is nearest to your cabin. You could also study the ships layout in the holiday brochure, pre cruise. There is really no need to worry about big ships.

cnservo We were on the VOTS last Feb. and found it very easy to get around. The royal promenade with the foward and aft centrum make it so simple, everything is on decks 3,4,5and 11-15which yuo can reach by the aft centrum and as Malcolm said there are charts at each landing. If you forget which day it is just look at the carpeting in the lifts. You can enter the dining rm. and the Palace on each level which also make things easy.
We're on the Feb. 3-10 sailing, just counting the days down. I'm sure you'll find the ship easy to navigate .If you have any questions just ask or e-mail me.

What I had in mind was a 3x5 card with all the listings of lets say the restaurants. If one wants to find the Portofino; whip out your card find its location; deck 11 aft and take off. The new brochure for RCCL has an exploded 3-D view of the Voyager and on this picture are 52 different location on the ship they have identified. If one wants to visit the Sprinkles ice cream parlor on the Explorer, your restaurant card will have it listed as "deck 5 mid ship" I just believe it will make things more simple than carrying around the brochure.

cncservo I didn't see your last post. The card would be a handy guide,I'll have to check our VOTS folder if there is such a card. I know Princess gave out one on the Grand Princess,a tri-fold that fit in your pocket.6 wks to go.
