We are cruising out of Fort Lauderdale in March and are staying over the Sunday night so we can catch an early morning flight on Monday. Any suggestions as to where to stay on Sunday that provides airport shuttle, is close to the airport and has a heated outdoor pool so the teenagers have something to do on Sunday. Also any suggestions about restaurants in the area would be helpful. Is it a great distance to Miami airport? The other family staying with us flies out of Miami on the Monday? Looking forward to good tips. Thanks Chargap

We flew into Miami on our last cruise from Fort Lauderdale. But we rented a car. It is around 30-40 miles from Miami to Fort Lauderdale! We stayed at the Hilton Airport Hotel in Miami. That was very nice. In Fort Lauderdale we stayed on the beach, but we were very far from the port. Celebrity just booked us into the Sheraton Airport hotel in F.L. for our Jan. 21 cruise. They have a pool. There are several hotels by the airport in Fort Lauderdale and I am sure ALL the nice ones have a pool. It IS Florida

Chargap: There are several very good hotels very near the docks in Fort Lauderdale (Marriott Marina, Hyatt Pier 66, and Embassy Suites) but they are in the $200-$300 US price range. As a fellow Canadian, we know that really converts to $300-$450 in our dollars! I feel that is rather steep for a post cruise stay. What we do, is rent a car and then drive to the beach areas that run along the coast from Fort Lauderdale down to Miami Beach. The costs are much cheaper; in fact beach front with 2 pools for only $100 per night. Even with the cost of a rental car, you are many $$ ahead. You could get a car from Hertz or Avis as they pick up at the pier for no added charge, use it for the entire land stay, and then have the family flying from Miami drop the car off there after dropping you off at Fort Lauderdale airport (no drop charges incurred). If you would like more information, including recommended hotels, contact me by email at: lesgrant@home.com I should add that I am not a travel agent, nor do I sell anything!!

Try the Amerisuites.
They have a free shuttle to the port and airport. The rooms are nice and so is the price.

Thanks for the tip but I'm not familiar with them. Are they a chain? Are they only in the U.S.A.?

Chargap:
On Sunday I posted toll free phone numbers to you of the more popular motel/hotels but it was removed from this forum. The best info one can gather I believe is the tour books from AAA. These books contain all the info one needs while visiting any state in the USA. Hotels/motels, restaurants, things to see and do. I believe these are available to our northern neighbors and one does have to be a member to obtain these. They are well worth the membership fee.

cncservo,

I believe that Chargap was looking for specific recommendations for hotels.

If you want to search a database of 45,000 hotels around the world you can use this site's online reservation service by clicking on the link to the right, under Travel Resources. If you want to check out any hotel chain's web site and offerings click on the Hotel link in the same place.
