So have you booked a cruise yet?

You may not realise it, but you are lucky enough to be in a win-win situation! If your cruise turns into a nightmare, it would have been useful customer research. If you really enjoy it, you will appreciate how a cruise should be run.

Hi Malcolm.
No I have'nt booked that cruise yet. I'm perusing the 'SUNBIRD' in the Airtours brochure. No British tour operator has taken me on holiday since my ground breaking High Court case against Wall V First Choice in 1993/97. Not because they won't take me, it's just that I don't have any faith in them anymore. I can just imagine what Airtours will say if I decide to book with them. Perhaps when I meet them on the 7th March for my regular meeting with them, I should mention it, if only to see their faces. What do you think?

Brenda, I bet that you would get a free cabin upgrade, without even asking for one! You might even get a seat at the Captain's Table?
However, don't go for any walks alone on the deck, at night time

Brenda, just in case you were interested in a little history of Airtour's "Sunbird":

She entered service in 1982 as "Song of America", built for the American "Royal Caribbean International" (then called Royal Caribbean Cruise Line). In May 1999 she was purchased by Airtours. She is 37,584 gross tonnes, with a maximum passenger capacity of 1,595 and 540 crew.

When she was built she would have been considered a big ship, but now she is dwarfed by the RCI newbuilds "Voyager…" and "Explorer of the seas", which are nearly four times bigger! However, don't go believing that the biggest is necessarily best! She is plenty big enough.

RCI usually insist that when there ships are sold, the distinctive RCL "Crown" (the observation lounge suspended on the funnel) is removed. However, in this case they allowed it to remain.

Malcolm - the story is the Viking Crown Lounge was suppose to have been removed from the Song of America, but it was sooooo expensive to do, they left it alone. I believe it was the buyers responsibility to remove it, but if it meant "no sale" RCI figured they would not enforce the issue.

Brenda - it's a beautiful (or was when it was the Song of America) ship. Smaller than the mega ships, but if you start out on the megas, you have nothing to grow into to!
