I would reply - yes, But?
Paulo, Barryboat, and many others post DIRECTLY here. I sent mine to Joe, some time ago, and was able to post a link, as do many others, but could not display the photo on the page.
I would like to do so, as I have more of possible interest.
And, in the name of all that is holy, do not depend on a link to Photopoint or such to display your photos. I have found that Photopoint in particular, is deadly slow and requires a certain quantity of hoops to jump thru, thumbnails and such, to view the picture.
More capability to post directly here on site is definitely desired - by me, at least!
quote:Question to cruise directors or others. How is it that one can take a photograph of a cruise ship and post it on the net without infringing on a copywrite.
Copyright is a mine field! This is how I understand it: If you take a photograph of a ship, you own the copyright, no problem!
If you steal a picture from a magazine or another web site, that is technically a breach of someone else's copyright. Ideally you need their permission to use the picture. Additionally it is good practice to acknowledge the sources, and possibly include a link if the source is a web page.
However, publishing material and photos on the web puts the material in the 'public domain' which is very open to unauthorised copying. The sharing of images goes on all the time! However, this does not make it legal.
My advice would be to make sure that you don't borrow (steal) too much, especially from the big COM's. If you do borrow anything, it would also be wise not to use their material in a negative way, as this could harm their reputation as a company. If you upset a big company, they might just prosecute you!
Copyright also applies to names and trade marks. If you opened up a Burger bar and called it "McBurgers" for example, McDonald's would come down on you like a ton of bricks!
