Getting ready for the Voyager of the Seas - June 3rd. Cruise paid for, got our own airfare and got a great deal - I am going with a couple of friends and trying to find a hotel. Always fly in the day before and stay in South Beach. Last year, we were able to stay at the Loew's Miami Beach - beautiful hotel, great location. This year, finding it impossible to get a room at the nicer hotels.

I always get great advice from you guys, so here goes. Looking for a hotel that is...
1. New construction, not renovated art deco hotel
2. Complimentary airport shuttle (do any of the South Beach hotels have complimentary shuttles? )
3. On the beach but not too far away from South Beach/Port of Miami - for example, Fountainbleu is on Miami Beach but too far away.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes my suggestion would be to stay in a renovated art deco hotel.

Just like classic ocean liners they have character and history.

South Beach and its assortment of art deco hotels and wonderful restaurants is a convenient and fun place to stay, but there are trade offs. Traffic is a real bite along Ocean Drive. At dusk it can be near grid lock as the beautiful people cruise up and down the Drive. And it ain't inexpensive either!

If you do stay in SoBe, I would not reccommend a room that overlooks either Ocean Dr. or any of the perpendicular streets unless the soundproofing is real good. Try to find a place with a court yard. We stayed in one one of the deco hotels that overlooked the beach and suffered through a very noisy night into the early morning. Loud radios and heeped up cars at three in the morning do not lend themselves to a good nights rest.

Look around; there are plenty of great places to stay in Miami and Miami Beach. And to be truthful, I enjoyed my stay at the Best Western up near the Fountainbleu. It wasn't the least bit inconvenient for us.

Thanks for the input, Frank. My friends and I will be staying at the Doubletree Surfcomber. It is in the same area of Collins Avenue as the Loews and although is is an art deco hotel, it has been renovated well. I have never stayed there, but AAA gives it 3 diamonds and the other people at other websites rate it favorably. It is within walking distance to Lincoln Road Mall and Ocean Drive, yet that part of Collins Ave. is quiet at night. And it is right on the beach. I love sitting on the beach in the evening and early Sunday morning. It puts me in the perfect cruise mood.
As far as noise, Ocean Drive is always a party. But I remember one year staying further up Collins Ave, past the Fountainbleu and it happened to be the weekend of the World Cup, where Brazil was playing some other country. There were a room ful of Brazilian teenagers in the hotel room next to us that partied until 3:00 am. So I guess noise depends on what is going on in Miami.

Thanks Joe! Looks like a nice property. I have seen a picture of the patio leading to the pool and the beach and it looks nice too. I will let you know when we come back in June if it was a nice property.

They have renovated the fountainbleu hilton. Its down the road a couple of miles and is usually significantly less money than the others. Incredible pool and nice beach, quick 2 minute taxi from the strip.
