Great improvement to the site, Joe....
Especially when posting messages.
Well done indeed!

O.K. So who is going to be brave enough to be the first to post their photo for all to see. (I reckon Joe & Malcolm should lead the way! )

I had some trouble with the new format at first but am getting used to it. Only problem is now I can't Bookmark the "Cruise Talk" page. I have to go to the main page, then click on Cruise Travel and then Cruise Talk.
I had the Cruise Talk page as my Home Page so it was easy to access, now will have to change that

Sympatico,

Sorry about the URL change, I guess that's the price of progress....

Going forward, if you use http://www.cruiseserver.net/travelpage/cruisetalk/ as your bookmark you will never have to worry again.

Also, please note that as a result of the upgrade you can add a picture of yourself to your profile and can indicate whether you are male or female if you wish. I have also made "location" a mandatory field.

Hi Joe, hmmm well it's different! I'm a little confused to judge the new format yet.

What does 'log in' and 'log out' mean in this context? Do we have to do this every session?

Oh, I like the Graemilns and the other instant features!

I just went into Search and noticed that now you have to search by a Member's #. How can we do that? We may remember the poster's name but certainly will not remember his/her number. Why was this changed?
Also, how did you go about giving each of us a number. Was it by date of registration or by surname, or User name?

Ryndam if you move your cursor slowly over the different functions it will tell you what they mean. Pretty neat, eh!

Malcolm - cute picture
You are now logged in so don't log out or else you will have to do this everytime you enter the forum. This is used when more than one person uses the computer or in this case posts to the forum. I never log out as I am the only one using it.

Joe, where are you when we need you? This is no time to be the quiet man! (The Clint Eastwood of CruiseTalk?) You have turned our virtual world upside down! We, your subjects, naturally have lots of questions.

(I registered in October 1998. I think this is when you first started CruiseTalk?)

By the way, I'm almost starting to like some of the new features.

Joe:

The changes on this page are GREAT! But i seem to be having a problem. Each time I enter the page after leaving - it still shows me that tehre are new topics to be read (the Yellow Bulb is flashing) and there are new comments to exisiting topics (the envelopes are red) - YET - there is nothing new there at all. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Jekyll,

Let me know if you are still having the problem tomorrow. I had the same problem for a while but after I logged in the first time it seemed to go away.

It seems to take a while for the new version of the software to set a cookie and synchronize with your browser. One of the new features is a web server caching capability which is designed to improve performance. That may be contributing to this particular problem.

But what is the 'Member Rated' and 'stars' bit?

Malcolm,

One of the new features is the ability for users to rate other users. As a user you can modify your profile and decide whether you want your rating to be publicly displayed. Not sure about this feature but I thought we'd try it for a while.

Another new feature is the ability to send "private messages" to other users. These messages are sent from one user's profile to another so you don't have to know a user's public e-mail address to send them a note.

Another feature is the ability to associate an icon with each post they make. These icons (which include a note, a smiley face, a warning, a thumbs up, and more) are a nice way of graphically showing the purpose of each post. Not sure how I feel about this one but I will turn it on for a while. Let me know what you think.

For a complete list of the features click here.

I'm sure that it will provide a little fun?

This is clever! I don't think that 'sending an E-mail when you get a private message' bit is working?

I've seen this before somewhere? The point is if you don't want to use it you don't have to!

What is the membership number based on???

Thanks Joe.

On this particular post nothing appears on the left hand side.

I'm unable to pull up your picture - would like to add a 'sad' face but that does not seem to work either. I

Totally by *'s - how you vote for someone - Ignore lists -Buddy lists etc.

Call it a 'senior day' or whatever you like but please, will someone clue me in?

Well now I've acquired *****'s - that's nice - thank you.

If someone can help with the other functions, I'd be really happy -

I'm an iMac (for now at least) user OS 9.1 - Outlook Express - Internet Explorer .

The problems I've had over the past week may force me to Windows!
