Went on my first cruise this spring. On many posts people mention motion sickness and some get it and some don't. Well, while on the cruise I never was bothered one bit. When on the islands I never noticed any change. Lo and behold I return to Toronto and while in my motel shower the morning after I returned I noticed myself doing a funny dance! For about one week I would CATCH myself. I would realize I was walking funny etc. Never bothered me in the sense that I felt sick but certainly noticed that my legs were still on the boat but I wasn't!! I had many people say what I had was sea legs, but why had I never heard of it until I got back? Am I weird, is this come deep cruising secret or has the rush gone out of peoples sails that they forget about it when they get back?

No Patriciaq, you are not weird! I've sometimes felt the motion of the ship more during my day in the port of call than at sea!

I also get the feeling of still moving after a long haul flight. I can lay in my bed at night and still feel the turbulance! Mind you it only tends to last a day for me.

That sensation always happens to me and will last for a few days. I can literally feel the throb of the ships engines in my legs while sitting. I also learned to keep the transderm patch on for a few days after the cruise is over to allow the medication to filter slowly out of my body. If I take it off immediately, I will become ill, as if all the mal-de-mar cooped up inside was suddenly released.

During our second cruise on the Independence, I had trouble when we were on shore tours. The ground felt like it was pitching.

It's interesting that the sensation only occurred then. The cruise itself was pretty smooth. I've been on much rougher cruises and have been fine.

I have an Aunt that always had trouble after a long cruise. She never had a problem on board but took some form of sea sick pill for about a week when she returned home.
I have felt slighty off balance twice. I usually find it hard to fall asleep since I miss the motion.

There is nothing odd about feeling sea sick on land, it's just because of the human physics. Something to do with the internal ear. When it gets used to the sea's motion, and when it stops it lasts even for some days after it notices that there isn't that motion anyomore.

It's always worst for me when I'm standing in the shower, second worst is sitting at my office desk using my computer. My sister was on a job interview a couple of days after one of our cruises and suddenly reached out to catch herself LOL, LOL (no she didn't get the job). Happend after our first three cruises, but not our last - and it had the highest seas and strongest winds - go figure.

It usually lasts a week or more with me. Sitting in front of the computer is sheer torture.

Though this last cruise, I found the quickest remedy took 1-1/2 days.......get a really bad head cold!! Once I clogged up.. I was fine!

I'm about to go on my second cruise (Monarch, June 17th). I have not experienced any effects on land, however, but on the ship. On our first cruise we were on the next the last passenger deck. The first two nights I had a little trouble getting to sleep. The motion made me feel a little nauseous and gave me a headche. We're in the middle of the ship this time. I heard this makes a difference? My sister in law used the magnetic bracelets, which seemd to stop the swaying when standing around. Any good suggestions on what to take if you are bothered by the motion at night. (I don't want to be too drugged up.
Thanks)

Mid-ships is the best place to be. You will feel the least pitch and roll.

I'm told the ultimate cure for seasickness is a 'majic' jab from the ships Doctor, but you may feel that this is a little drastic?

Look on the bright side, you now know what to expect and the sea might be as calm as mill pond?

I have found that for actual motion sickness (the kind on the sea, not on land), ginger capsules do the trick. I take one capsule with each meal and it really seems to work. Love the fact that I'm not drugged and that I don't have to curtail my alcohol consumption.

I have found that being at sea for longer periods of time, like for a 5 or 6 day trans-Atlantic crossing, this motion sensation on land is more pronounced. I notice it more when I go to bed....the bed feels like it's moving, or should be moving. Try living on a cruise ship for 6 months, where every single night you can feel the ship move...and then going home on leave...it's a weird experience!
