I am trying to find out when Grand Princess is going to be refurbished. There is a two week break in her schedule at the beginning of December. Does anyone know for sure if this is her time to be refurbished? Does anyone know what the refurbishment will include? Just curious, I am planning to sail on her right before Christmas and was wondering what to expect.

Thanks.

Cruise ships never stop cruising unless they are going into dry dock!

I would have thought that she is a little young for a major refurishment, but maybe they need to do mechanical work too?

Grand Princess is most likely having routine work done- repainting of the hull, and cleaning of the underwater surfaces- and a full cleaning of the interior spaces with any repairs needed. My guess is that she will be drydocked at Newport News Virginia- as it is the only shipyard large enought in the area to hold her. (newport is where Carnival sends the Destiny class ships as well).

In the past Grand Princess has returned to her builder, Fincantieri, in Italy for drydocking- but this summer she is not sailing the Med and a suitable site near Florida was needed.

If you want to know what to expect in December when you take your cruise- expect a very clean ship and well rested crew.

I can confirm that the Grand Princess is going to dry-dock during those days December. It's a routine dry-dock scheduled to do hull cleaning and painting, engine maintenance and all those jobs that can't be done when the ship is sailing.
