I received a letter from HAL 2 days ago inviting me to send for the brochure of the above ship. Her inaugural year is 2002/03 her itinerary is Europe, Asia and Australia and New Zealand. She is a small ship for Holland America with less than 400 cabins. Everything I seem to come to the conclusion about this is that it is the Seabourn Sun being renamed. The itinerary is very similar to that of the Seabourn Sun. Anyone heard anything?

I also received the letter - have returned the card - do you know her ports? - it's more than a straight Trans-A.

All the information I have at the moment (Encore Cruises have not given us any information yet)is what came in the letter.
I assume you just have the Sailing Schedule the same as I do.
As Travel Agents we in Canada seem to get everything last, the cruise lines seem to assume that Canadians cant afford to cruise and if they do its in the cheapest Cabin. Yet when one finds out the figures, per capita, there are more Canadians cruising than Americans and they are also cruising in the higher category cabins.

You got that right - I'm surprised that a Tour Operator has space on this ship - must get myself an Encore brochure and see what gives, pricewise. Maybe a new HAL brochure will appear soon.

Thinking back to other T-A's we've done with HAL the ports are usually Bermuda and the Azores.

Timber - that is exactly the list that all Alumni received. Must have taken you a while to put it in chronological order and type it.

Green - I get the feeling that Encore Cruises will not be carrying the Prinsendam and that Agents will have to go direct to HAL in Canada. That of course will mean lower commissions due to the fact that we usually do HAL bookings with Encore and therefore going direct to HAL they will start us at the lowest commission. I will however ask our Encore Rep (who will probably not know the answer!!!).

Diana:

I know all of the upper management at Encore QUITE well and I am sure you'll be able to book Prinsendam through them...just remember that it does take time to get a new programme in place and the tour operator only receives the information once it is al in place with the cruise line. Just keep your ears open.

I know your Encore Rep quite well and have the confidence that once the information is given - it wil be provided - and usually if you're a big producer for a tour operator/ cruise line, you'll hear it first!

Don't forget that the Sun is not leaving until 22 April...so hold on for a bit and all will become known.

The Prinsendam is the soon-to-be former Seabourn Sun. Holland America has indicated that their special Prinsendam brochure will be available in September 2001 for cruises starting in June 2002. The general itineraries have already been announced (look very interesting) but the important question will be the prices and the detailed itineraries including specific port stops.

The Prinsendam looks like a good fit with HAL is that her smaller size will allow it to visit ports that might be unavailable to her larger sister ships and also will give HAL a great deal of flexibility in fleet deployment. As long as she can maintain allthe services and features that appeal to HAL`s loyal clientale, she could be a real asset to the company.

May see you on the Prinsendam some day

Hi Barryboat:

Even though Enocre Cruises is a tour operator, they do not do charters, they have realtime access to the res. systems of RCI, Celebrity, Cunard, Sebaourn, HAL and I believe NCL. They free-sell space and it is as if you were calling tyhe cruise line directly in MIA. In addition, they are online w/ SABRE and have charter flights so most flights are confirmed at the time of booking or shortly thereafter...

There set up is more like that in the UK or OZ and not too common in the States...

Let me know if you need anything else!

Barryboat:

It is www.encorecruises.com but don't expect much ihas been underconstruction for awhile now - it is not a priority for them as they don't do direct bookings and each cruise line rep already have their own sites.

Hope this helps.

Encore Cruises is a Cruise Wholesaler for Canadian Travel Agencies. They match our cruises with air and as stated earlier they book direct through the cruise lines.
