We have a number of young cruise talkers who have very prolific ideas - such as Jesse C, Beezo, Cunard, Commodore and others.

They obviously put a lot of time and thought into their posts.

How about a new forum especially for them?

This is a great idea, Grumple. That way they may attract other young cruisers and have sort of a forum all their own.

A forum where the youth give their ideas out is a good idea, particularly because adults can answer the young cruiser's questions about shipping.

A great idea. We would know which area these talented young persons were posting in.

I still think it could replace the little used "travelling with Kids" forum.

Of course, the Travelling with Kids is little used, but Joe did say that sometimes it gets good information.

However, you could integrate them into a "Children and Teenagers Board"

Parents post their issues while the kids post their ideas for routes, etc. Corrine, Joe, Sympatico, and Malcolm will moderate the board.

Very good idea, I will take care of this upon my return from tonight's Jimmy Buffett concert.

You can listen to the concert live on the internet at Radio Margaritaville

Jesse C I'm not quite sure what you mean by ".....adults can answer the young cruiser's questions about shipping." - can you be more specific?

What I was meaning was if youngsters were asking how much does the lifeboat and raft capacity have to be, (400 spaces or 125% of the pax, which is greater is the requirement)

And once sympatico was suggested as the replacement for Malcolm when he said he was leaving.

A valid, technical question - one which even 'experienced' cruisers might find difficult to answer.

I would think that the required capacity of a lifeboat and/or raft would depend on the ship's country of registration, passenger capacity and size/tonnage.

An answer to the question will, I'm sure, be forthcoming - this board has many very technically knowledgeable contributors.

Participation - not segregation!!

I welcome the inputs from the younger folks. Their interest in ships and cruising, and their enthusiasm is most welcome.

I am not in favor of a "kiddie corner!" Some show maturity far beyond their years. And, most significantly they are in the process of developing a new base of enthusiasts.

Sure there are some far-out observations which I attribute to the exhuberance of the young.

But I welcome their thoughts and interaction with us superannated old fuds.[Monterey, 1946, Kungsholm, 1960, Queen Mary, 1965]

Given the (unfortunately deservedly) bad rap that undisciplined oversexed kids have been given on many cruises, as reported here, I welcome those who represent the other side of youth and their serious interest in my interests!

And I welcome them as correspondent-companions and would be happy to have them as cruise companions as well.

But don't put them in a kidde ghetto!

Having a special forum for Youth is hardly segregation.

Personally, I read every forum - even those which are more technically slanted.

It would be an insult to the young people of this board to consider their own forum a "kiddie ghetto".

As Jesse C mentioned, they would like comments and input from 'adults' regarding their ideas.

I envision a forum where the youth will lead the discussions and the rest of us may join in.
