Yona, the inside Cabins of the Zaandam may be small.
Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships 2001 writes, the smallest are only 10,5 square meters.
On the Millenium for example it is minimum 15,3, on the Zenith 16,0.

This is 50 % more space and an much better food and service.

I did the Transpanama Cruise with the Crown Dynasty in 1994 from Ft. Lauderdale to Acapulco and back, and in 1998 from Los Angeles to Ft. Lauderdale with the Mercury.

It is an very good Experience.

So, my advise is to do it, but to change the Company.

CELEBRITY IS BETTER!!!

and the Company has often Special Offers, do not pay Prices from official Brochure!

Amerikanis - have you ever been in an inside I on a HAL ship? I haven't stayed in one, but visited a friend who was in one on the Statendam on the Verandah deck. It was a very good size and plenty big enough for 2 people. As I said, I have been in an outside I on Lower Prom on the Veendam and they are also a good size, as are all HAL cabins.

Yona if you would like to see a virtual picture of a K cabin on the Zaandam, go into
wwww.mytravelco.com/cruises/cruiseship/360/
it will give you an idea of what an I cabin is like. You can also see what an inside cabin is like on the Millenium and Zenith. I just looked at the inside cabins on these 2 ships and I think the use of mirrors makes the cabins seem larger.

We have done the Panama Canal twice and thoroughly enjoyed it. Weather is usually hot and humid so go prepared with lots of sun tan lotion and a hat!

Hello Yona

I just completed a trans canal cruise (arrived home a week ago) with Holland America on the Amsterdam. I have also cruised with Celebrity. If I can answer any questions I would be more than happy to assist with your plans.
By the way, Sympatico helped me with my plans and was always right on the money!

Marbella, which was better?
HAL or Celebrity.

On Chandris/Celebrity Ships i sailed on the VICTORIA, AZUR, ROMANZA, AMERIKANIS, MERCURY,CENTURY, MILLENIUM.

But i was never on an HAL-ship.

O.K.: On the Amsterdam, Ryndam, Statendam, Veendam, Berlitz writes the smallest inside-cabin is 17,3 square Meters.

Only on the Zaandam it is 10,5.

Is this on Print-Mistake??!!

But the rating of all new Celebrity ships is undoubtable better than this of HAL.

Especially Food and Service, the Items you feel most, are rated clearly better.

On Celebrity ships, there are no precooked Items in the Dining Room, everything is made fresh on Board.

The Ship provides an very high Standard of Cuisine and Service for the Size of the Boat.

I have to put my 2 cents in here, even though we're getting off topic.

We sailed Celebrity 3 years ago and were greatly disappointed. True the cabin was the best we've ever had but service & organisation was atrocious - long
line-ups at check-in and always for food at the buffets. We paid a premium just to experience Celebrity and were so disappointed - we'd be loth to chance it again.

Holland America's service, food and organisation on the other hand was excellent.

Amerikanis, in reply to your question, which was better Celebrity or HAL. Perhaps we were very fortunate but both our cruises were excellent.
The food, from memory was perhaps marginally better in the dining room on the Zenith and the midnight buffets were lovely.(not that we could eat at them!)
The service on both cruises was excellent. I would hate to be on a cruise where you felt the staff was smiling only with an outstretched hand. Takes the fun out of your holiday.

p.s.
I must confess that we were generous with our tips on the Amsterdam--must be because ALL of the staff were very generous with their service.

Having sailed on both Celebrity and HAL, I found the much touted cuisine of Celebrity to be vastly over-rated and their service not up to HAL. In addition, HAL shipshave many desirable features not found on other ships. For one, the very best musicians.
