I will be spending 7 nights on RCI's newbuild 'Brilliance of the Seas', in July. It is cruise to the Norwegian Fjord's.

This is quite an odd choice of ship for me, as I always claim to be a traditionalist, prefering smaller ships! However, the date, price and destination were right.

I think that this will be the ships first cruise, as it does not even appear in the Brochure? (Maybe my TA invented it and has run off with my money?)

It's a bit of a risk really - a new crew etc. I hope that the ship will be finish on time. The paint will still be wet and the Carpets will smell!

So have the CruiseTalkers all booked their Spring, Summer, or Autumn/Fall cruises yet (money permitting)? Or are you waiting for the late deals?

Don't know if I am nuts or not but I booked Christmas a month or so ago and the other day booked another one in November, although that depends on whether I can get the cabin I want. No sooner home from one than 3 weeks later I turn around and take another.
I figured I might just as well do it now when I can travel alone and don't have to be pushed around in a wheel chair!
November is on the Rotterdam VI and Christmas is on the Volendam - haven't sailed on either ship so I am looking forward to seeing them. Very first cruise was on the old Volendam.

Spring 2002 - just can't wait! We're on the Statendam, March 23 - San Diego-Hawaii round trip.

With summer trips to Germany and the UK, we'll have to see how the 'money market' is doing before committing to anything else!.......we're thinking about the Rotterdam V1 in November.

>Malcolm,
Good choice to cruise the Brilliance. It is in the Brochure and she will be ready in time for your cruise. She is supposed to arrive Harwich early July 10.

Looking forward to meeting Green on Statendam to Hawaii on March 23rd. Also booked on Rotterdam trans-Atlantic Harwich to New York. Hoping to sail on the new Zuiderdam next February if we ever get their schedule and ports of call.

You will enjoy, I guarantee it Afterall it's Norway, and you'll be on the sea!

We all have our first preferences, but have to give way to some, especially when as I have, there are children in school, husband at work etc. and dates are a prime consideration. Price, destination and ship are all part of the decision, but can't be too choosy or we'd never get away anywhere. On the other hand it would save the pennies for retirement when such constraints wouldn't be there. But who can guarantee in the interim one's health didn't suffer or other unexpected and unforseen things happen which would prevent one going anywhere then.

Pam, I'm just going to pretend that 'Brilliance of the Seas' is three 'Black Watch's' bolted together!

I have to confess we booked our cruise on Arcadia next christmas as long ago as the end of last september so only 2 months to go to the countdown halfway point. But that is made easier by the fact we will be on Constellation in june as replacement for last years cancelled Galaxy cruise.

As a matter of fact, I just booked Celebrity's Millennium for 4/21/02 (8 nights). Two weeks ago, I booked Constellation for Nov 10th - a 2 night cruise to no-where... but I was finally able to afford the top-digs - a Penthouse Suite.

Our next, the first for a year, is going to be very interesting. It's only a 7 day Alaska return out of Vancouver on the Sea Princess in June, but it'll be the first using an electric scooter which I now have to do. It's a trial trip with a handicapped cabin etc to see how we make out. This way I can drive on and off in Vancouver with no flying involved.

You will have to post your review when you get back. We are on the Brilliance on Oct. 2nd, out of Boston, to New England/Canada. Does any one remember the web/cam address for the Brilliance? I saw it once and she was all pink, now I can't find it again. Have a wonderful cruise.

Marcia, it's the Meyer Werft web cam you want, you can get there via 'Shipyards' on the left, but they seem to hide the page and I had to use their search to bring it up.

It's funny how Brilliance and Radience are a very similar size and style to the Celebrity newbuilds, yet they are being built by different yards!

Maybe they steal each others designs?

We booked last year to go on Saga Rose in July. We booked while we were still onthe ship last April as the ship fills up so quickly. We are going to Iceland, Norway, Scotland and Ireland.

Yesterday we booked a Carnival Cruise...I never thought we would be going on Carnival as they do look rather like a block of flats and we hear they are"fun" ships...not sure what that means! We are not in the first flush of youth and maybe the other passengers will be much younger than us.

However, an offer came through the post that was just so good. Then when we rang the London office told us the cruise was booked out. It is the 2nd voyage of the Carnival Legend from Harwich to New York via Ireland, Scotland, Iceland and Newfoundland. Leaves harwich on September 5th

I got the Miami number and rang Carnival and was told if i rang about 9.45pm our time there could be a cancellation. We were so lucky. We got a great cabin and London office then organised our journey home by BA.

So despite all the things we have heard about Carnival we are booked and we are looking forward to a trip on a ship that sounds most luxurious and quite different from any ships we have sailed on before.

What does everyone else think of carnival ships?

Cheers from London Anniel

Anniel, I think it is just great that you are booked on two very different itiniaries, with two completely different cruise lines (one being American) on two completely different ships. Well done! Variety is the spice of life.

Carnival have a reputation for attracting the younger party crowd, but this is probably dependent on the itinerary. I'm sure that a transatlantic from the UK, will be different. (I visited Newfondland last year on the SS Norway).

Carnival are like 'The Sun' Newspaper. The are both the best sellers, but everone loves to hate them! However, as Carnival are the most sucessful cruise line, so they must be doing something right?

You must return and tell us how both cruises went! It will be great to hear you comparisons.

Check out the 'Readers Reviews' menu left - lots of Carnival ships are featured.

(Carnival have added a UK mini cruise, making your cruise No.3)
