Thank you very much, but i'm not there yet

I hope this old topic will get to the 100 some day.

I used to be very fanatic with cruisetalk, but since some things changed i just read it and i do not post that much anymore.

I miss the good old times with sympatico,NAL, Green,PamN, Malcolm, Barryboat, Joe and many others.

I like this board very much but when i posted live from the rotterdam and the zaandam there were not very much postings. What is more intersting than a person live aboard a cruiseship in this board ?.

I am still reading everything and i will post some topics when i am aboard the volendam in september from Vancouer to Tokyo.

Hope to hear something from Sympatico, Nal, Green, PamM and all the other sometimes.

All the best,

Bernard, Terschelling - West, The Netherlands.

Hi Bernard

Don't post much anymore as things aren't the same as they used to be. NAL rarely posts, but he is fine - talk to him sometimes. PamM, Barryboat and Malcolm are still posting.
Have a wonderful time on the Volendam - the cruise sounds terrific. I am sure you will know some of the officers who are on board. Believe I sent you a Private Message regarding this.
Enjoy!

Hi Bernard , nice to hear from you again

It's true - the forum content has changed - we have many posters well versed and extremely knowledgeable in old ships, their origin and present status, etc. etc. data in which everyone is not interested.

Perhaps we need a ‘Technical’ thread expressly for the discussion of old ships, new ideas and designs.

Many cruisers, first timers or otherwise, are interested in the advice, opinions and experiences of other cruisers - I believe they are intimidated and/or 'put off’ by too much 'technical jargon'.

I’m a TravelPage supporter but lately begin to feel that there’s an overload of ‘technical data exchange’.

Happy cruisin'

Hello,

I don't quite get what this thread is about? As far as I can see Bernard doesn't have 100 posts yet.

Green - the first-timers who are discouraged from "technical talk" should go to Cruising 1.0, no "tech-talk" there.

Happy Cruising,
Cruiseny

Actually, Cruising 1.0 is for topics related to someone going on a first cruise - or cruising with a new line for the first time. It has nothing to do with whether the subject is technical or not.

Maybe what we really need to have a new forum for maritime technical talk.

What do others think?

I think a technical topics forum would be a good idea indeed. It would give us a better place to ask questions on technical issues without cluttering up the existing forums.

Happy Cruising,
Cruiseny

Joe - A technical forum would be a good idea. I enjoy learning about the history of ships and talking about the current aspects of cruising but the technical stuff goes right over my head. I don't understand much of it and my father is an engineer!

Maybe a technical forum on ships is not a bad idea Joe, though I haven’t got the feeling that there is so much technical talk (maybe Malcolm’s napkin question was quite technical ). I think it couldn’t hurt. The “technical talkers” and the non technical talkers could both be happy.

Best, Onno

Good idea! That would help divide the 'Napkin' type posts from the 'Hull Stability' ones!

You could call it "Technically Speaking"?

A dedicated technical forum would be an excellent idea, but a discussion of a ship's technical aspects can very easily evolve from a topic started to ask advice/opinions; so I'm not sure how effective it would be as a "catch-all" for technical discussions. BTW, love Malcolm's suggestion for a name.

Britanis - I agree that 'technical aspects' can easily evolve..........' . My point is that when posters, first timers or seasoned cruisers, enquire about a ship, it's staterooms, facilities, decor, entertainment, shore excursions etc. etc. etc. etc. - you name it - they are not necessarily interested in 'technical' (for lack of a better word) statistics As Churchill said, if they require more information they can ask for it.

Happy cruisin'
