Joe, has now kindly posted my review and photographs of ‘Carnival Legend’.

If you are wondering how I could provide so much detail, two friends of mine took the inaugural cruise. I was able to include their observations.

As per usual Joe has done a very nice job of the presentation. He cannot be blamed for the content.

When you find the spelling mistakes and errors, please E-mail Joe, not me. He is the proof reader!

Finally !

Fabulous review, really... Glad to see that there were some positives. I am one of the people who, as you said, "doesn't really want to wear this kind of crown," but I would try Carnival, just to see.

I know you have skillfully avoided this, but I must ask (please forgive me) - which do you prefer, Brilliance or Carnival Legend? They are after all both the same size, age, market segment, etc., so they really are directly opposed to each other ...

I easily prefer Brilliance! I am not a big fan of 'mega- glitz'.

Spot the Urn! If my memory serves me right, all the Atriums staircases have them - that is 11 decks worth!

That is HORRENDOUS!. Is it really that colour, or a bit 'over red/pink' due to the lighting in there?
The staircase doesn't look particularly wide either?

There is plenty more decore like that!

That is the very top of the Atrium. I think that the small staircase leads to the 'Golden Fleece' alternative dining room, housed in part of the funnel. (The one that looks like a church).

It has a glass roof, made of 'Red' glass - so everything looks pretty red - mind you the camera does highlight it. But yes, it does look pretty much like that.

The staircase doesn't look particularly wide either?

The main staircases are normal width, maybe 20 Urns wide?

Haven't read the review yet, but just looking at the picture of the ship I thought - too big for me - hate those mega-size ships.

Re the URNS Looks like something Farcus would dream. Never seen anything so ugly.

Great job Malcolm,

Spot the urn indeed, imagine if Mr. Joe Farcus did also design the Carnival Legend’s exterior!

Best, Onno

You have hit the nail right on the head. The whole decor is a fantasy, myths and legend type thing.

Not so much a ship as a 'Harry Potter' set!

Sheesh, I thought the decor on Carnival ships was getting better but maybe not... Those urns... Ugh... And why red glass for the skylight? Isn't clear glass good enough ?

Well at least now you know not to refer to Brilliance as "Las Vegas" ...

Part of Brilliance were glitz (Centrium) but much of it was very tasteful.

I'm told that Carnival's new ships are toned down compared to the earlier ones. I've not seen them, but I do find this hard to imagine?

Actually I like the Carnival funnel, in its original form, as on Tropicale, Holiday, Fantasy, Destiny... The new one on Pride and sisters is rather squat and doesn't look as good to me as the older one from before the "supper club" was introduced.

Personally I think Destiny is the most handsome of the Carnival vessels. Fantasy is the ugliest, horrible looking thing. Like an upturned milk carton.

I had a laugh today on reading the following extracts, posted by someone onboard the TAs trip.

"The decor is SOOOOOOO overdone it's pathetic! Too much of everything... brown, wood, purple, urns, so on."

"TOO MANY URNS !!!!!!"

Pam

Malcom thanks for your review. A few comments, I toured this new ship once she arrived in the USA two weeks ago. Yes, the funnel at the Golden Fleece does make photograph's appear to be "In the Pink". I was there on a cloudy day and the color scheme actually is much more beige with brushed brass wood tones on the square frames bordering the balcony dining area. The urns are a pewter color and although abundent, you do get used to them. My question to you is where did you find the statue of David in this dining room that was mentioned in your review. I know right where he was on the Pride, but I did not see a statue of any kind in the Golden Fleece. I did take photo's of the beautiful mural and similar stairway photo. Those stairs are narrow but worse, they are see through glass, which make them very perioulous to walk down. When I actually sail on her, I will take the elevator!
Bon Voyage

I'm not surprised that you did not find one! I was refering to the painting:

"A 12ft reproduction of Michelangelo's David is the centrepiece which is suspended above the dinning room. It gives the room almost has a Church like feel. It really is quite astonishing".

She was certainly a remarkable ship, if not entirely tasteful! Enyou your cruise and do write a review for us.

Great stuff, Malcolm, particularly as it applies to the Brilliance. I've been saying to some folks around here (that is, friends of mine not on this board) that I was thinking about passage aboard either the Brilliance or the Radiance as our next cruise, and the response has been positive so far. Thanks for the insights.

Well as you know, I was VERY impressed, and I am a bit of a traditionalist!

Mrs.M thought that I have flipped when I booked a new mega-ship, but she soon changed her mind once onboard!

Go for it. RCI have a great product for the money!

Carnival is one of the working class cruise lines that alot of you snobs will no doubt never experience. I imagine the cruise ships you cruise one have no need for restroom facilities. Trashman

Ouch, cncservo, no need for that.

I wonder which of the two ships will be the better urner?

I don't know if you include me as a 'snob', but:

1)I AM working class!

2)I'd like to try a Carnival cruise and a Seabourn etc. if I had the time and money, so I can make my own mind up which I prefer.

3)It's pretty rare that Carnival visit the shores of the UK, that's why I jumped at the chance to visit Legend.

4)Carnival is not a cheap option for us Brits, flying to the USA bumps up the price so it is on a par with most of the other popular cruise lines.

Not quite sure what the decor which Peter was referring to has got to do with needing a rest room? I think that decor is awful on Legend, and it's got nothing to do with being a snob or not.
