First of all i would like to ensure u that i actually know about this subject since i used to work as chef on several cruise lines especially sailing in US waters

here a few facts:

1. the Sanitation standard on most of the cruise ships is far higher than in any hotel or restaurant you are eating on daily base shoreside
2. the passing grade of a USPH Inspection by the CDCs VSP is set on 86 points - the passing grade for any facility shore side is only 76
3. Sanitation onboard is set as a very high priority by all cruise lines in most cases it is considered more important than food quality
4. The turn over of food products on Cruise ships is so high that there is hardly a chance for products to actually spoil
5. Most Companys have a very strict and enforced training programm for Food handling personel, i remember people getting fired for not washing their hands !!!!!!!!!!
and it is easier to check on the living conditions and personal hygien practices of Crew on a cruise ship than it is to check on the living conditions of any employee shore side
6. Even Public health officals say that most of the cruise ships are far cleaner and safer regarding food handling than most restaurants anywhere in US
7. Usually there is a daily random inspections of any Foodhandling Area conducted and a weekly inspection of all Foodhandling areas and Bars( this is mostly done by the senior managment onboard - hotel manager, captain etc.)
In addition to this most of the big companys have a Corporate Officer in charge for Public Health and Environmental issues which is normaly conducting company internal inspections on the ships through out the year and all this in addition to a USPH Inspection every 6 month
which is by now an important advertising feature since it is published everywhere.
Tell me a place with this many inspections shore side and i go there and have a look!!!!!

As former Chef on ships I consider most cruise ships more safe than the restaurants i am eating in shoreside

This is to defend the hard working Gally crew of cruise ships where everyone blames all the problems on - its so easy.!!!!!!!!!!!
