From MaritimeMatters

January 9: P&O Princess Cruise PLC's official endorsement of Carnival's takeover bid will mean the end of the company's winter cruises to Cuba. The London-based firm will now comply with U.S. laws relating to doing business with Cuba. The company's Cuban voyages will end in March, as the Miami-based firm takes over.

Any thoughts?

Yet one more reason to lament the Carnivalization of the world's cruise ships. A pointless embargo that serves only to deprive US citizens of the opportunity to see Cuba.

I have such mixed feelings about that embargo, on one hand it prevents American dollars from falling into the hands of a tyrant, on the other had it actually helps Castro remain in power. The embargo provides him with a convientent scapegoat, all the ills caused by communism are blamed on America. I really would like to visit Cuba someday... I wounder how much longer Fidel will live?

You can still see Cuba, many Americans go there and in the past few years the numbers have rise.

I think, it is no Problem for Americans in Cuba.

To go there, travel to Europe and book an Flight from here, or try it from Mexico or Canada...

Think about the Number of Presidents, who Castro survives in his Position as Cuban Leader:

KENNEDY
JOHNSON
NIXON
CARTER
REAGAN
BUSH
CLINTON IN HIS ORAL OFFICE...
now Bush again...

It is a shame. Cuba is one of the most popular destinations for Europeans. My political views are of no issue on a cruise messqage board, so I won't voice my opinion of the U.S's (rediculous) embargo.
Amerikanis, please show some class. Your "oral office" quip was way out of line. In the future, show some discretion is your posts. I see you neglected to mention "Nixon never tells a lie" and so on. Remeber, this is a cruise message board and no place for discussing the private life and choices of a former president.

Again another reason to put an embargo on the Carnival Corporation and their globalisation in the cruise-industry !!!
What did Carnival bring to all the lines they took over in the past ?
Every single company lost its original flair (apart from Carnival Cruise Line) and has to agree restrictions in their itineraries. And: the traditional names and management-boards are just thrown over board !
What a shame....
Long live the lines which do successful on their own without being dependent on any supervising mother-company !

Nixon and his Waterloo...ähh Watergate.

And Bush is the only President i can remember, who is NOT ELECTED.

In our Country the Chancellor is the Guy with the most Votes...(o.k.: actual he is the wrong, but since September it is hard to meet People who tell, that THEY have voted for SPD) But no doubt: he has some Votes more than the other Side...

...in US it is better to have the second most Votes, and then declare, that the Counting Machinery in Florida was out of Order...

...is this the Beginning of the End of Democracy
in US?

Amerikanis, please, you should read again Vikingcrown's post for beeing sure to capture the meaning of what he judiciously wrote. Thank you.

On top of the fact that's inappropriate in a cruise forum, things are not always that simple and that caricatural.

Many moons ago, we were told in our school that the United States of America was the first Empire in the modern world that started on its decline before reaching its peak of power.
Things like this Cuba situation and the Helms Burton Act that controls this only go to prove this statement.
