There is not a chance in the world that P&O will take the Victoria back when she is returned from the charter.
The reason that she is chartered out is simply the fact that P&O don’t want her but they couldn’t get a acceptable price for her.
The sad truth is that you don’t make any money on small old ships.

Though Victoria might be chartered, I genuinely doubt that she will ever return as the Victoria to the P&O fleet especially with the newer substitutions already in place . I heard that the reason for her departure with P&O is because during her career she was badly maintained (the same reason why the Pacific Princess 1 was replaced) Well let’s see how her career goes as the Mona Lisa.

Btw are there already picture of the Mona Lisa and her livery, I’m curious how the painting on the funnel looks for real.

Best, Onno

Onno:

I beg to differ with you. PacPrinI was very well maintained. Once you reach a certain age... well
it just is no longer financially prudent to keep an old girl in the fleet.

She was a darling ship... terrific dance floors not found in any of the Princess fleet now....
and sorely missed.

Well the ship is operating since December 2002 as the MONA LISA already. Not fully booked yet, it certainly has to be seen if the public accepts the standards of the ship and if in future bookings will increase.
Origo: It is not true that you can't make money with such types of ships. On the German market, the chances are much higher to make a better deal with a ship as the MONA LISA than with a ship as the A'ROSA BLU for example.
I would say that with the right management and good publicity, this ship can easily get a high amount of repeaters like the ALBATROS has by now.
If Holiday Kreuzfahrten is the right operator for the MONA LISA has still to be seen in the future. Because to sell the cruises only via their 6 own travel agencies seems to be a hard job in my eyes.

So, does that mean that generally P&O have a policy to minimise maintenance of their ships to the minimum required?

Does Holiday Kreuzfahrten have English spoken on their ships? Would a non-German speaking American be totally out of place? is the right operator for the MONA LISA has still to be seen in the future.

Patrick, there is an other important Point:

Holiday has in the Past an full Charter of the TRITON, an small Ship of Royal Olympic in the lower Segment of Quality and Price.

They need now much more Passengers and they need
an partly other Clientele, i think. In the 3-4 Stars Segment Competition is hard and great.

They made always Offers for reduced Prices, there are not 2 Weeks, until i get the next Offer per Post or in the Television Brochure with my Newspaper.

This is an undoubtable Sign, that the Bookings are so-so and not very high.

Victoria was always well maintained by P&O. She left the fleet because she was becomeing expensive to operate, she was hard to market alongside the new much bigger ships, and she was not able to turn the kind of profit the new ships can. P&O/Carnival no longer own the ship and haven't done for a few years, in fact P&O sold her and chartered her back from the new owners for the last 18 months that they ran her. She was the best ship in the P&O family by far but time catches up with us all.

Canberra1961, English is unfortunately not spoken onboard anymore, at least not between the passengers or during entertainment. Maybe parts of the crew speak English between them. Nautical officers are from Ukraine, service-crew from Eastern Europe mainly and passengers from Germany only.
The ship is owned by Leonardo Shipping Company and managed by Kyma Shipmanagenet (Paris Katsoufis is behind this company). So I doubt that P&O will ever take the ship back on charter-basis.
If Holiday Kreuzfahrten can attempt its booking levels in future, still has to be seen. Right now it doesn't look too good but all can change in future.
