We're taking the May 31 cruise of the Alaskan Inner Passage on HAL's Amsterdam. Has anyone done this cruise around this time of year? Any comments or suggestions? What about excursions? Anyone else that is taking this specific trip?

I haven't been on the Amsterdam. Can't help you much, but I did the inner passage itenary with RCCL's Vision of the Seas and the ports were beautiful. You should enjoy it!

Have sailed on Amsterdam, but not Alaska. Did Alaska cruise on Legend of the Seas. You'll love both the Inside Passage and the Amsterdam ... especially the friendly customer service aboard her! Congrats for booking this one!

Thanks for the good words. We sailed on the Norwegian Dream to the Baltic last year and found it just fine. Now we're really looking forward to what everyone seems to think is a big step up. I can hardly wait.

Am I correct in thinking we need to take lots of layers and good rain gear? And how about motion ... is it likely to be rough sailing from Seattle to Alaska?

Hmm.....Not sure about the early June season. Bring some rain gear and a few thick layers would be good. We went in early July and at times, there were strong winds. I departed from Vancouver BC and remember the first two days were rough, since we were out in the ocean. Probably the stabillizers wasn't working either. Shouldn't be a problem.....went on the Elation to Mexico and it was calm sailing.

I did a Princess cruise that went through the inner passage and it was absolutely breathtaking. We did it, though, in August and it rained every day but one. So like Keitaro said. . bring rain gear. And if you don't already, get some binoculars!

We were on Amsterdam for the Christmas and New Years cruises this year and she is a very beautiful ship. She is currently on the World Cruise and does not return to Los Angeles until April 22. World Cruise boarded the day we disembarked.

Hope you enjoy the ship as much as we did.

Thanks, everyone. I think I'll be prepared for some rough sailing at the beginning, and will get some good binoculars before we go!
