At Fakta Om Fartyg I saw pictures of the Ocean Village conversion and it has the name where it was not going to in the released pic and the purple stripe is up high and goes around the front.I dont think it looks like the picture released at all.

Captain Rhone, do you have the link to that page? I would love to see how the conversion is doing. Ernie(eroller) had told me that there will be a magenta strip across the side of the ship right above the lifeboats. I wonder if the magenta would be too colorful to go along with the rest the ship's hull art?

The page is here.

I check their updates every day as there is more often than not something new and interesting (especially for someone like me who is interested in passenger ships of all kinds, ferries included). The Swedish is confusing at first but the vocabulary of the site is quite limited and I am inadvertantly able to read some of it just by looking the words up over and over again . It is a really indispensible site... The owner (Micke Asklander) is to be commended for compiling and constantly updating a site with such a vast array of information.

The nicest thing I can say about the new look is that it is different.

Now there are ships with eyes and lips (Aida), lips with roses (A'rosa), big circles (Ocean Village), weird slogans (RCI), colorful ribbons, swimming dolphins and the Statue of Liberty (NCL).

The wild sunburst design on the ss Independence years ago may have been the first of it's kind but certainly now is proving not to be the last. Perhaps the design on the Indy would not have been so bad if it had been done smaller. So far all these new designs have remained on the hull instead of spreading across the hull, superstructure, lifeboats and funnels like the design in the Indy.

I have this funny feeling we are just beginning to see the first of many of these type of paint jobs on the ships.

How'd you like to be the captain of Ocean Village, knowing all the other masters must be laughing behind your back? Poor Arcadia!

I can’t help saying but I actually like the livery, it’s new, different, a bit quirky and fits very well with the new target audience for where the old Arcadia is meant. At least it breaks with the conventional white cruise ships (which I recall from some other postings some time ago was also disliked and titled boring)

The magenta line above the lifeboats breaks up the height of the ship which makes her look more horizontal and thus longer. It also insinuates a difference between upper and lower super structure (a bit like in the old days of the liners)

I also liked her when she was in princess livery (especially the huge logo on her forward superstructure) in P&O livery she looked okay (but not very special IMHO) Ocean Village livery is intriguing not bad at all.

Best, Onno

Yeah I would say that I like it too but when ever you look at a picture like of what she was supposed to look like and the ship is not even out well the cruise lines always seem to do that when something is coming out and lets say that looks like Ocean Village or close the design always ends up defferent on the ship.So then what do you do if your going on the ship and hate it at first sight and can't cancel and dont want to go.Thats why it would be nice if they actually show what the ship is going to look like before it comes out.I wish I would have known what it would have looked like before hand. But now I wonder when the webcam goes on.

I don't think people go on ships for the exterior look but for the interiors and itinerary.

Yes that is very true. I remember on the Disney Wonder in August my father used to gawk at her stern and black hull. We still had fun. Aside from interiors, and itineraries there is always entertainment and food. Who wants to go on a ship with no entertainment...not me.

Usually the outside reflects what you can expect inside the ship. I like the lines of the ship, but the color scheme is way to glitzy. Looks more as a floating luna park to me. And the OC under the bridge don't make any sense. On the other hand, this ship has active people as their specific target group. Many Europeans still believe that cruising is for grey and grumpy old men; maybe OceanVillage thinks that the use of these colors will give them the right image. But in my opinion, a ship should be particular white or blue, with small other color accents.

Good question! They have just seemed to pick the first two letters of Ocean as a kind of logo - odd? I think it's a stupid name anyway? Why Village? To me Village counjours up old and sleepy, it is hardly a dynamic word, is it? Ocean City or Ocean World, sounds better to me.

The web site contains an insight into the product:

http://www.oceanvillageholidays.co.uk/

How different will the ship be from Arcadia?

Ocean Village is currently sailing as sister line, P&O Cruises’ Arcadia. It’s being completely re-fitted for Ocean Village – special features include the panoramic ocean view gym, the extra on-deck dining options and new bistro (with menu by TV chef James Martin), new bars at the centre of the ship and more balcony cabins.

Will you have a dress code like your sister line, P&O Cruises?

No – Wear what you feel comfortable in.

Are the tours different from P&O Cruises?

We offer a different range to P&O Cruises – more lifestyle and activity based – everything from wine tasting in Tuscany to hiking up Vesuvius! Prices typically range from £25 for a half-day to about £40 for a full day (including lunch). We recommend booking early to reserve excursions as places are limited.

The web site features a quiz so you can check if you are an Ocean Village type of person. Mind you, it does not seem to work with my browser?

http://www.cruise-review.co.uk

pictures taken yesterday @ southampton

The ship is going to be docked their for next weekend when the public day has been arranged and the naming ceremony by ulrika johnson ? come on p&o was she the best you could do ?

the OC is the logo of the company as in even in Ocean Village the O & c are painted different colours. This was the case throughout the brochure.

It will also look better in the sunshine where bright colours tend to mellow and look cheerful.

The photoshop in the brochure was not that far off the final design and surely its whats on the inside matters more than whats on the outside.

I think that we have more to worry about with easycruise being planned, surely we cant have orange boats too :s

How the heck did they do that? Cut more holes?

I think she will do fine in the British market. Lets hope Carnival does not redeploy the whole P&O Princess fleet soon.

Here is another quote from the website:
"Ocean Village offers cruises for people who don't do cruises, giving a fresh take on holidays at sea and ashore for a different generation. The Action Ashore programme features abseiling, jeep safari, mountain biking, river rafting and scuba diving options - these are not spectator holidays. Formal dress codes, restrictive mealtimes, ballroom dancing and sherry with the captain are off the agenda - an Ocean Village holiday is all about sailing without the ceremony, with 24/7 dining choices and a new Mediterranean or Caribbean destination to explore on six days out of seven."

I just don't know what "abseiling" is. I hope they do well, I just can not stand the distraction of the paint job, when I was on the Norwegian Dawn, I did not like the paint scheme at all, Oh well here's to very casual cruising.... can't wait to see what's next... minimalist interiors?

I thought OCEAN VILLAGE is marketed through OceanVillage Holidays instead of OceanVillage Cruises?

Works for me!

The OC is a logo which looks better than OV written in the font so I guess it became OC which is through the brochure.

The amount of balcony cabins has been increased in a way which I cant say sounds too attractive. The Arcadias 'mini suites' have now become suites and the Arcadias suites have been split up into four, also becomming suites and twins with balconies. Thus meaning more balconies without any more holes.

I have to say that the ship is starting to show its age, especially viewing from behind where the beautiful horse shoe design is not present.

Did anyone notice the laser show frame sticking up from the top centre of the ship, will be interesting to see this in action.

Oh and abseiling is going down a cliff using ropes etc See below :

Sister company AIDA also does a poolside laser show, and I'm sure this is where OV got the idea from. From what I hear, it's quite popluar and fun.

Terrible- TERRIBLE!!! She looked so much better in the press release from last year.

I am generally in favor of creative hull and paint schemes- but she looks terrible. Rather than looking fun and adventurous she looks cheap and awkward.

I liked the original rendering- with the intersecting rings on the bow, and the single stripe low on the hull. I'm quite disappointed.
