Look here.
"Cruise Ship Tycoon is a fun and exciting game that lets you take control of a fleet of cruise ships. Features include: colorful and unique characters (including staff and passengers), Challenge, Career and Open Play game modes, various locations ranging from Antarctica to Alaska and Russia to Mexico. There are 4 base model ships to choose from and a large variety of rooms, food, staff and entertainment buildings to create. Don't forget to steer your ship clear of icebergs, land and those pesky sea creatures. Read more for some screens ..." and more on the page above.

Or not! (with my luck in computer games)

BTW strange place to hang your anchor if you ask me.

I had the idea for a game like this years ago- of course I had no idea there was actually a market for such a game. I'm excited to see that someone has actually done it.

Has anyone played the game? Is it worth buying? What other ship designs do they have- other than this Carnival knock-off?

Confession time:- We have a few of the 'Tycoon' games. Ski Resort, Railroad, Airport, and another.. can't recall, all OK for a few hours entertainment.
But I will admit to enjoying Roller Coaster Tycoon, it was quite good fun with a couple of the add-on packs. Well I got bored after 2 or 3 weeks, but it gave a few giggles and the kids still play them, once in a blue moon, a bit dust covered though. [I am not a games player despite having these things, Monkey Island and Broken Sword type things are more my style, but I haven't had one for a couple of years now, no time to waste!]

I will get this out of curiousity. I don't think it comes out until next week and $19.99. We won't get it in the UK for a while I shouldn't think though.

I like the Sims games, especially SimCity where you construct your own city. I've been saying for years that I would love a game like SimCity for cruise ships. My partner kept asking me why I don't develop such a game, especially since my brother is a computer programmer? I also never thought there would be a market for it except for maybe a few of us cruise ship enthusiasts.

While Sims games are a little different then Tycoon games, Cruise Ship Tycoon is close enough to peak my interest, and I have ordered it. I love the cruise industry, and I know that I (among many others on this board) feel I could run one better then most out there.... maybe this will be my one and only chance to find out if I'm right? Of course you have to hope the programmers and designers designed the game realistically and with some sense of authenticity. You really must have knowledge of the cruise industry to design such a game, and hopefully they did some consulting prior to putting it together.

I love simulation games. My personal favourites are Railroad Tycoon 2 and Roller Coaster Tycoon, but this game looks promising. Even if it is a knock off of Carnival 1. Carnival is the image of cruising for most. 2. There are 4 ships to choose from in this game. I'll definitely consider this as part of my birthday wishlist.

Sounds like a great game too...
quote:
"Cruise Ship Tycoon' combines the most popular and well-liked aspects of tycoon/simulation games with new design elements custom-tailored to the cruise industry," said Patrick Kelly, Vice President of Studios, Activision Value Publishing. "From hiring the crew and entertaining the guests to making sure the ship is in top condition, it's up to gamers to keep their boat afloat."

In "Cruise Ship Tycoon," players start off by building a cruise ship, setting it sail, and managing it while at sea. The game features three different models of ships, each with two upgrades, which can be unlocked as the gamer turns the venture into a profitable business. Players must develop management strategies that take into account the unique challenges of a ship environment like making ship modifications and staff additions exclusively at ports and having limited access to one floor of the ship at a time. In addition, customer satisfaction plays a pivotal role in the success of this luxury liner, so tycoons will need to monitor guest happiness and employee satisfaction, among other things, to build up a positive reputation. Gamers will see as the ship gradually takes on a life of its own as guests interact in true to life form.

"Cruise Ship Tycoon" features three different modes of play including a career option that challenges players to build their empire from scratch; challenge mode, which features 10 mission-based challenges that range from accumulating a minimum amount of money to getting the ship to the next port in a set amount of time; and free play mode, which allows players to start off with any ship and run their empire as they see fit. "Cruise Ship Tycoon" provides fun and entertainment for anyone up for a challenge.

The way the bridge juts out in the middle reminds me of Superstar Leo and N.Star. The ship in the back actually appears to look like the Grand Princess withe the Royal Funnel
This game looks interesting, I think i'll buy it, I think it comes out the 23rd.

It reminds me too. The front superstructure looks like a NORWEGIAN SUN.

I must say I'm very interested in this game! Can anyone tell me when it is for sale at the European mainland? And what's the price in UK/America? Is anyone willing to send the cd-rom to me for a small amount of extra money?

My copy has been shipped. Not sure if it went out yesterday or today, but I should have it by Monday.

I'll be sure to let you all know what I think, although it may be a while before I really get to experiment with the game as I'm going to be working FAR too much during the next week. Yuk!
