Hi all I really havent posted to much here, but am a big time lurker. This board by far has the best knowledge of any I visit. So when I feel I have a real question this is where I turn.

We just booked the Mariner of the Seas for Nov 16, and after booking was messing around web sites and found out this is there first sailing. '

O.k.
1 is this really its maiden voyage? 11/16/2003
2 pros and cons of a maiden voyage.
3 how is the ship comming along and does anybody have pictures.

Thanks so much for your replys in advance.

Yes this is the maiden cruise for Mariner. They were due to delivery in 2004 but a while ago they decided for an Oct. 31,2003 delivery so thats when its supposed to be delivered but then leave for the maiden 11/16 sailing.

I, personally wouldn't go on an Inaugural cruise as there are so many things that could and have gone wrong on past Inauguarl cruises. Staff is not prepared - they are not used to the ship - things could go wrong with the ship - there are so many variables. If you could postpone the trip, I would, but then that's my opinion. I'd wait anywhere from 6 -12 months before I sail on a new ship.

Everything sympatico says is true, and very good advice- but here is somethign else to consider.

Mariner is the 5th ship built in this series which means there are likely to be fewer glitches, the ship is much more likely to be ready in time, and the crew for Mariner should be familiar with the ship if they have worked on other Voyager-class vessels. All of this is to say Mariner will likely have a smoother inaugural season than earlier ships in the series.

But again, weigh this with what sympatico said... consider it all when choosing your date.

The Mariner has always been due for delivery in October 2003. The schedule was "officially" cut back for a while after 9/11, but construction was going on as originally planned.
The ship will be ready for inaugural on Nov 16 and everything will work smoothly due to the now very experienced Take Out Team.
The ship is coming along according to schedule and the yard will be closed for vacations three first weeks in Julyas usual.

Are the Yard owners trying to sell other cruise lines on ships of the scale the Voyager class fits in, taking advantage of the experience they have with it. I would think they would want to take the most advantage of building those ships as they could. Are they posturing to make the Ultra-Voyager class affordable for RCI even if the Euro doesn't take enough of a dive?

I was aboard the Navigator of the Seas for it's 8 th voyage. The ship was up to speed and everything went smoothly. I would not worry too much about a Voyager Class newbuild, I think they have it down to a science.
