The first four-funneled ship was KAISER WILHELM DER GROSSE circa 1897. Last was WINDSOR CASTLE in 1922.

Gosh, I've looked at pictures of her a thousand times and it never occurred to me to count the funnels!
I suppose if asked I'd have said she had four but I never really thought about it.

She lost a funnel latter in her career so maybe you seen her as a 4 funneled ship

Having seen many photos of the Great Eastern with 4 funnels and then seeing this one, I looked it up in volume 1 of Kludas' "Great Passenger Ships of the World" and noticed a glaring error which had hitherto escaped my attention.
Kludas shows a number of photos. The first is virtually identical to Draikar's and clearly shows 5 funnels. The subsequent ones all show 4 including one taken in 1886.
The caption to the 2nd photo which shows 4 funnels reads: "The Great Eastern after her fitting out as a cable-layer in 1865. The fourth funnel has been removed"
For 1864 the text has the following entry: "Jul: The Great Eastern towed to Sheerness for fitting out as a cable-layer. At this time her fourth funnel and the boiler beneath were removed."
So, even Arnold Kludas miscounted. Or was it the translators? As for myself, it took me over a quarter of a century to notice the error.
Most of her life she was a cable-layer, which means most of the photographs of her would presumably be with four funnels...
