I manage to find some interior shots of the newly arrived OOSTERDAM. I don't know if all of these came from OOSTERDAM, but some do look different than on ZUIDERDAM!

Public rooms
Staterooms\

For comparison, below is a ZUIDERDAM interior link:

From the atrium's alone, the Oosterdam looks like a tribute to the 1970s, and the Zuiderdam looks like a triubute to the 1980s. I never thought I would say it, but I think that, from these pics, the Zuiderdam looks nicer.

The atrium, Explorers, and "penguins" are certainly OOSTERDAM. The thermal suite and Pinnacle look just like ZUIDERDAM's, but could well be OOSTERDAM's.

The cabins could be either ship - and confirm my prediction that OOSTERDAM's cabins will be just the same as ZUIDERDAM's (not good).

The only areas that are definitely NOT on ZUIDERDAM look exactly the same, but with a different color scheme (and, frankly, not a more "muted" one either).

It looks like OOSTERDAM will be ZUIDERDAM with a different color scheme in the decor. Frankly to have expected anything else was being overly optimistic!

Keitaro - you're right, OOSTERDAM's has a darker color scheme.

Frankly I didn't pay much attention to that room - in fact I never even saw it, and I imagine most pax don't as the only way to get in is to USE it, which costs an arm and a leg and honestly doesn't sound very appealing anyhow. I'd prefer my vegetables, not ME, to be steamed !

It would be interesting to hear from passengers's reaction of OOSTERDAM when compared with ZUIDERDAM .

It is hard to compare to the Zuiderdam but so far the Oosterdam looks quite impressive. It will be interesting to hear the reaction once the naming ceremonies are over and the trade and public get a chance to come aboard.

No, like many of the other ships in the HAL fleet, her interiors were designed by Frans Dingemans of VFD Interiors.

Bermuda Boy - when the Statendam was being built Farcus was allowed to decorate 2 rooms. I believe they were the Crows Nest and Main Show Lounge. They were such a disaster and not liked by HAL Alumni/Staff, etc., that they had to do the two rooms over.

I heard that he would never again be allowed to touch a HAL ship.

Farcus actually is a private designer, not a Carnival employee, although I'm sure Carnival is his largest, if not only, client. And he's the designer for Carnival Cruise Lines, not Carnival Corporation -- big distinction.

RANGER - I think Nathan answered your question.

To add a bit to it. The Statendam was the first new ship built for HAL after Carnival took them over, thus I guess, they decided to contract Farcus to do the 2 rooms I mentioned and it was a disaster.

Could previous Carnival cruisers that went on either "Z-class" ships be mistaken that the interiors were designed by the same guy?

Many thanks to Bart for giving us a link to his OOSTERDAM tourthat can be found at Passenger Ship Parade. I want to show a room that I like, but I don't know the name. Can anyone help?

I was a/b the Oosterdam at Rotterdam one Monday and Thursday for the christining.
And yhe pictures are from the Oosterdam.
I have good feelings about the ship. Oke she is not the Rotterdam i visit also but it feel good. I think the interiors are very nice and modern. And give that HAL feeling. I think when she get older and the new is gone she hat that same home feeling as the Rotterdam i visit before here.

The cabins the are fine as a/b Rotterdam the bathrooms are les buth you don't stay in that room all the time.

Only the Vista Lounge i think must chanse because now people on the balcony have not a good sight on the stage. I think the naval architact have placed the roof(not the good word i believe) To low.

I think that HAL have actually toned down OOSTERDAM interiors from ZUIDERDAM. In the thread New Carnival Glory Pictures!, Malcolm quoted that Farcus does not matter what he designed, but that Arison liked it. i think even though Z-class interiors and Carnival's interiors were designed by different firms, the "basics" are still the same...

The Vista class interiors are designed bij VFD interiors Utrecht the Netherlands the head designer voor the project are Frans Dingemans. The compagny is the house interior designers fore the Holland Amerika Lijn. Farcus has nothing to do with it. VFD has also worked on the Nieuw Amsterdam/ Noordam the Statendam class, Rotterdam / Amsterdam, Zaandam/ Volendam. And began designing voor HAL back in the 70's with the Veendam project.
