Ranger,

Hmmmm, took some kind of mushrooms, he forgot to put in
"a chessboard where the peices get up tell you where to go"

I like the crimson room, it would work with fuscia, chartreuse, of electric blue.

It is better than the neo gothic rococco on the Carnival Spirit. He must have dropped bad acid, or mixing blow with qualludes on that one.

You would never guess you were on a ship. No connection to the sea whatsoever.

This is an ideal ship for a marijuana theme cruise

YIKES! I don't think I will ever like a Farcus interior. A crying shame that he does the Costa ships now as well

It’s odd, few people have a good word to say about Farcus’s interiors.

If I sailed on a ship and did not like the décor, I would not rebook. Now I assume that Carnival must have a good level of repeat passengers, to be the number one cruise line? Hence, their passengers must like the interiors. So who are these passengers?

Younger "party" people (whoever they are ). Maybe someone like Ranger who likes Farcus's works .

Some day, probably many many years after my death, people will be intrigued with Facrus' designs. There will be books documenting his work, and the impact it had on the cruise industry and maritime history.

I really don't care for the Farcus style- but I'll give him credit for this... he has certainly been successful at giving Carnival and distinctive flavor- unlike anything else in the industry. Well, until he started doing Costa of course.

Costa Victoria was the last ship created in the true heritage of Costa. Costa is no longer 'italian style' but rather a parody on italian style- in the same way Las Vegas hotels parody Venice, Paris, New York, Ancient Rome, and Egypt. What a shame.

I find the design of this ship hideous-I thought the Sensation was gaudy but for the most part the Victory was toned down-but this! Ick!

You are so right! In fact I read somewhere, not long ago, that a Carnival Corp executive said their goal was to make Costa the "Carnival of Europe". By using Carnival ships and Carnival's designer they are certainly succeeding.

I do like some of Farcus's earlier works, spare the Ecstasy were maybe things started to go bad. Hmm, did he get Carnival to name the ship Ecstasy? I think he does have some good works, most rooms on the Carnival Triumph don't look too tacky. The same can be said for the Sensation, IMHO.

Maybe Ecstasy is his inspiration?

A contact of mine knows Joe Farcus personally and has been to his house in Florida. Apparently he is a very nice guy and his house is surprisingly tasteful decorated. Obviously he did not design it himself?

Mr.Farcus was once asked at a press conference, by a brave reporter, if he actually liked his own designs! He apparently replied; “It does not matter, Mr.Arison does.”

A good designer can design for target groups where he has no affinity with or that have different frames of references. As a designer you do not always have the luxury to design things only you like. In most cases the client is indeed the king (and the person who signs the pay check) So I completely agree with Farcus his comment that it is irrelevant if he likes it, as long as the customer (in this case not the cruise public but Mr. “Carnival” Arison himself).

After all Farcus is a commercial designer not an artist (if he was he could have afford the luxury of making art only he liked) Those are the simple facts of business and for me even the puzzling challenge to make something for a complete different audience then your self.

Best, Onno

I am no interior designer , and have no plans to become one, ... But, I like the work of Farcus, its so flavorful, its never dull, thats why I think he is in charge of Carnival, I like to have a good time, and I feel that the enviorment you are surrounded by helps out! However, I can agree, Ectasy was pretty bad, also, Fascination was really bad, Orange and Purple?!?!? I personally think that Elation, Paradise, and maybe Imagination are the "cream of the crop" as the "Fantasy" class ships...

I liked the ELATION's interiors. After seeing different works by Farcus, I think ELATION's was more toned down...

I guess we can't blame Farcus for those "exotic" interiors. Maybe Arison is the one to blame .

Hmm, than why would such awful work be done for Costa?? Kinda makes you wonder how imprtant details are sometimes overlooked. I say we start a petition to get the next Costa ship to feature Italian interior design!

Great pictures of a horrible subject.

This is my first post here but I thought a few comments were in order. I have never liked the decor of the Carnival ships - but they definitely portray an image which some people like. The designs are all "lively" and portray the Carnival atmosphere of "Macarena til dawn" and "hordes of funloving people." Some folks actually want that.

As for me, I prefer the "classier" nature of HAL. Touches like being escorted to my room and having bells chimed before dinner put me in the state I want to be in while cruising.

With as many lines as there are out there, such specialization is actually a good thing since you can know what you are getting before you actually get it (Imagine leaving port for an Atlantic crossing and finding out the first day that the party ship you thought you were going to be on doesn't have a single person younger than 70..... Or even worse, the cruise you are on is a Gay cruise and you are not- wait, they did a movie about that already...)

The pictures of the Glory are what I would expect from a Carnival ship, no more, no less.

Oh yes, putting in a plug for me, come visit my Holland America Veendam site at www.hollandAmericaVeendam.com

I think a certain style of a cruise line should stay with that one line and not over flow to another line otherwise what's the point. Costa ship at one time were Italian interior design not Carnival Italian rip-offs.
