Ugly?...a little and can be made better. Cunard outdated?...Cunard is not outdated, but if you think so, its not as outdated as Titanic.

Outdated?
I heard that she displaces less than her predecessors(75,000tons).
It rises a few questions.
Will she be capable of war service as most Queens did?
How fast will she go with such a power reserve?
Time will tell,
ssLewis, whose birthday is on 7 november!

If you look at the close-up photos of QM2's stern it looks like a couple of exhaust ports sticking out the back (above the letters Queen Mary 2)...are those part of the ship or used for something in the shipyard?

Many new ships I have recently traveled on have them. RADIANCE OF THE SEAS, INFINITY, CORAL PRINCESS. The one thing in common with these ships and QM2 is a Gas Turbine. I'm assuming they are some sort of exhaust pipes for the gas turbine.

I think they are a part of QM2, I have also seen these sort of exhaust pipes on the stern of Brilliance and Serenade of the Seas so I assume they are here to stay. Though I have no idea what the purpose of these pipes are.

Here is a picture of Serenade I made you can clearly see the pipe sticking out of her back.

I think QM2 looks better all the time with the paint process progressing.

Best, Onno

I have to agree with Titantic....that's one ugly ship. Hopefully her interiors will make up for it.

If you agree with “Titanic” that QM2 is outdated than especially don’t expect too much about her interiors.

Technically seen QM2 is not outdated at all but she has the most up-to-date and even never used technology onboard.

Even the suggestion that a new build would be outdated is complete nonsense, you think these multimillion dollar companies are idiots to build a ship with outdated technology?

The only thing you could suggest is outdated is her looks and that would be a wrong statement as well! The only thing her looks are is retro and though I ‘m not too happy with retro it is the most up-to-date design style there is. We live in a world where post modernism (I even heard the name hyper modernism) is the current fashion. Old styles of all eras are used and twisted around to create something “new” (see Farcus interiors). QM2 is an excellent example of modern Technology combined with a modern style.

So there you go with your outdated statement.

Re: Speed Trials.

The Cunard website has now replaced the statement about speed trials in the Clyde with the following

quote:
The second sea trials will see Queen Mary 2 off the coast of France. The trials will be undertaken sometime during the first two weeks of November.

Regards, Colin.

Is this question fore me Nathan ore fore Titanic.

No never sail on Cunard, in my opinion Cunard is not outdated simply because Cunard is still around and fore over more than 150 years in service the still have a excellent service. Yes the have not add new ships sinds the 70's buth thats chancing now and with 2 years the add no les than 240.000 grt to there fleet the Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria. So the Cunard story go one. Thats make the company not outdated.

As Cunard said:

"We're not the best because we're the oldest, we're the oldest because we're the best."

It's no wonder Cunard outlived White Star, brand X, and when they had the chance they dumped the extra baggage.

1> Thats okay because the last LINERS built before QM2 were in the 1960's.

2> The 60's produced QE2 and France - 2 of the most beautiful liners ever created.

3> Have you read the Cunard Mission Statement? They are there to bring you back to the past - from your comments it seems they are succeding in their mission!!
