Three ex ferries now for sale on the East coast:

MIRAGE 1 in Port Canaveral:

REGAL VOYAGER in Charleston:

& TEXAS TREASURE II in Freeport, Bahamas

With the casino vessel market being less that stellar these days, what will become of these floating lepers?

From Maritimematters:
quote:
MIRAGE Sale
February 5: Ocean Club Cruises' MIRAGE, which began service in May 2003 from Port Canaveral on two and three night cruises to the Bahamas and Key West and ceased operations on 10 January, will be sold. The owner's attorney announced in US Bankruptcy court today that the ship will be auctioned off to help repay debts in excess of $4.8 million USD.
I guess EasyCruises can pick them up or go will go to the scrappers!

I was wondering what happened to the John Hamilton Gray, and what pops up but the Texas Treasure 2 in Freeport.

The "Gray" as we called her, was one of the big and dependable icebreaker car/train/passenger ferries that ran between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, Canada before they built the huge Confederation Bridge.

She was known for her rattles and vibrations from the big diesels she needed to push through and break thick ice. Being on her too many times to count, I can not imagine her being a warm water casino ship, and by the sounds of things, neither can customers.

The Gray replaced the original "Abeweit" in the seventies which is now a yacht clubhouse in Chicago - a more fitting second life than most.

It was always an adventure for me to cross on the ships, much more so than driving accross a 14 Km bridge. But I guess time rushes on.

Now that I look really close at the picture of the Texas Treasure 2 again, I no longer am sure that it is the John Hamilton Gray after all.

I think the bow in the picture may be too long, as the Gray's was really short and stubby. Very similiar lines though. Anyone know it's original name?

SpiritSailor

P.S. Then again it almost has to be the Gray. Only the Canadian Government could build something so boxy, "practical" and otherwise altogether graceless!

Memory at war with itself in Canada,

SpiritSailor

Yes the Texas Treasure 2 is the ex George hamilton Grey and she is quite well maintained too!

It should be noted that all 3 of these ships are former ferries and all have existing car decks!!

Are you sure about MIRAGE still having her car decks? If you look at the deck plans on Ocean Club's website, it certainly appears that the car decks have been converted to accomodations, showrooms, casinio and shops.
