TITANIC was 46,000 GRT.....NORWAY, 76,000 GRT, and QE2, 70,000 GRT.

These figure are approximate and are rounded off.

In terms of length, TITANIC was 883 ft. , NORWAY 1035, and QE2, 963.

It's amazing how many people still think that the White Star ship was the largest ship ever....

To be more exact about the QE2 it is 293.52 meters long or 962.99 feet which must have been rounded to 963 then.Since they do say 963 feet long.Just like Princess says Grand Princess is 290.0 m or 951 ft long but it is actually 289.51 m which is 949.8 feet long. Also Titanic was 46,327 GT,QE2 70,327 GT and Norway 76,049 GT.

In the left menu bar is a link to my Ocean Liner poster, it shows 10 liners in the same scale. There is also Titanic, QE2, QM2 and others on the poster to compare. The poster is for sale so if you like to compare it from up close…

Best, Onno

Actually QE2 was designed and built using Imperial measure, not Metric measure. Her length overall is 963 feet to the nearest inch which converts to 293.52 metres +/- approximately 1 centimetre.(.01 metres). Neither measure is exact.

Just to clarify, my response was to Captains Rhone's "to be exact" post. Otoh, your post was fine.

If you want a not too technical answer, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 is more than three times bigger, in terms of gross tonnage, which is a measure of internal space (volume).

The Titanic would now be regarded as a medium sized ship. There are many ships now twice the size of Titanic, in terms of gross tonnage!

Never the less, a 46,000 ton ship is still pretty big when you are on board. Never be fooled into to thinking biggest is always the best.

But, when you looked at the NORWAY in the distance....liek I did with a webcam from one of the Princess ships a few years back......you'd almost think you were looking at the TITANIC. It was a beautiful shot from the bridgecam then. Wish we had another opportunity now.
