Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has any good web sites or photos of the QE2? Has anyone been on the Qe2 in here? If so what did you think of it?

Thanks
Mr_Cunard

The quality of the experience on the QE2 does depend to a certain extent how much you pay!

Johan, I was told before I went, ‘if you can’t afford Grill class don’t go’.

However, I do not agree. I would recommend sailing on her in any class, as long as you are aware that the ‘M’ grade might not come up to your expectations.

You see there is a danger that you might expect the most famous ship in the world to have the highest onboard standards, in all grades. This is not the case.

On my crossing a few years ago in M -grade, the food and service were of a lower standard than any other cruise line that I’ve been on; not inedible, but nothing special either! RCI and NCL had been better.

Many grade cabins are now well below contemporary standards on all newer ships. It is not as if M grade is necessarily cheap, either.

I would suggest those that would enjoy the QE2 the most (any grade) are those with a sense of history and interest in Ocean Liners.

I would say that those who want to enjoy the "time out" of a crossing and the ambience of the ship's public areas when she is not fully occupied could go for Mauretania, but outside. I've sailed twice on QE2, both times Caronia, but taken time out to have a good look at some of the other cabins and the inside Ms really are tiny, dingy, poorly lit and I would be most unhappy to pay Cunard fares for them. On a cruise, when the ship will be fuller and you could want to spend more time in your cabin (lounges too busy to relax, etc) the definitely Caronia or above.

Hi thanks guys,
Do you think that the Qe2 has better food then that of P&O Oriana or Aurora? I think that if oyu want a nice ship and alot of history and fine tea take a Qe2 cruise (or crossing)

I have been sailing on QE2 since 1972 and I have eaten in every restaurant except the Princess Grill.

Yes, Mauretania cabins are a bit spartan but the rest of the ship makes up for it. I think that both the foood and the standard of service have improved since Carnival took over and the way that things are done - proper afternoon tea, waiters fetching tea and coffee at breakfast and silver service in the restaurants is much better than P&O.

I don't know what people's expectations are - if you book a tiny inside cabin, that is what you will get. Added to which, QE2's higher fares are a reflection of her higher speed and therefore higher fuel consumption. When you think that you can do QE2 Caronia class to New York with a free flight back from any North American gateway for less money than a round-trip Club Flight, I think the value for money is astounding.

Also, remember that QE2 offers single-seating dining for more passengers than any other ship in the world (including QM2)

Mr. Cundard, the comments above are fairly typical of the range of opinions about the QE2; from astounding value to over-rated and expensive.

In fact I would say that no over ship is quite so controversial – although the QM2, may well become so, too. This of course makes the decision about whether or not to cruise on her a difficult one. I decided the only real way to judge her was to go myself.

P&O also provide a quasi-British experience, especially on Oriana and Aurora. What you have to decide is which ship gives you more for your dollar – if price is the overriding criteria.

(I'm not sure why someonce called Mr.Cunard would want to book P&O, though? )
